Post Help me with the choice

I want to buy a receiver and a 5.1 audio system
The price is up to ... 2000 $
Will be used for : playing PS3, watching movies and listening to music. I like it when there is a lot of bass in movies, in music too. Prefer listening to trance music + Djs, sometimes chillout, sometimes alternative music (Punk, Rock).
My room is 10 meters but I want a really powerful audio system.

Some guys told me to consider Jamo C 405 set + Marantz receiver.

Help me to make a choice. Thanks

Have you been able to demo a good amount of speakers to decide on a few brands you enojoy?

I have been able to Demo Jamo and was not very impressed based on the cost/quality.

The Dali Concept 8s are nice, I dont think you could get all 5 speaker for $2k tho, but the bass out of just the 2 fronts is awesome. Detail is better then anything i have ever heard. If you are willing to build a system slowly, then I suggest that you get Dalis and a Receiver then add the Center and surrounds later, before gettin the Sub.

Really because most of us are not going to know the prices of speakers in Russia, you may just be better served to get some CDs of the music you like and go to the speaker shops near you and listen to as many speakers as you can and find what you like the best.

From your list I would try to listen to them all. But since you really want to listen to music, I would avoid these.

Sony
Yamaha
JBL
Klipsch
Pioneer
Yamaha
Bose
Harman

I would focus my attention on

B&W
Paradigm
Warfedale
Tannoy
Dali
PSB
Jamo
Revel
Monitor Audio
Canton

Good luck.

yeap, i also thought of building an audio system slowly

Among the speakers i would try to hear
- Canton Chrono 507 DC or 509 DC
- Monitor Audio Silver RS6
- KEF iQ7
- and as u recommended Dali Concept 8

The price of the first 3 is about 1000-1200, Dali Concept is 890.
This will be the fronts (one of them), maybe anyone knows smth about the first 3 speakers ?

The receiver would be.. Onkyo TX-SR607.. maybe someone has it?
Thanks

I have heard all the speakers you are looking at, I am not 100% sure about the Cantons, I heard some, but they were much more expensive in USD then what your said, so I may have been hearing a higher end pair.

Of those 4 speakers, the RS6 and the Dali's will give you the best low end, bass is excellent from them both. The Dali's I liked better then the MA RS6's, there was more detail and a richer truer sound to music. The MA RS6's were a little bright, alternative music was good on the RS6's and Dali's were just less forward sounding. Jazzier music and Pianos were a lot better on the Dali's then the MA RS6's. When it came to reproducing a piano, the Dali's were just heads above everything else I have heard so far in the $1000/pr price range. Nice thing is, is that a speaker that makes music sound great also makes HT sound great.

Kefs are nice speakers but they are just too bright for my tastes and with prolonged periods of music they start to wear out the ear. Detail is very good, not as good as the MA RS6's or Dali's but good. Canton speakers are nice, they have a warm sound, but the low-end frequency is just not as good.

Check them out yourself and I am sure you will come to about the same conclusion.

You should be OK with that receiver, but if you can get a Marantz 5003/5004 or an Onkyo 707, I think you would be happier.

Callas, what would consider the most "neutral" speakers out there? Neutral as in a very good balance of lows, mid's and highs.

Fors. I am not sure, maybe some of the higher end B&W speakers, the 684s & 683s seem a little to forward for me to consider them nuetral, but the CM and 700 series were farily well balanced. I like my dads older 603s, they seem more neutral then the newer 600 series speakers. The Martin Logan Preface, seemed pretty nuetral to me too.

The "Most Neutral" would be hard to say, because my exposure to speakers is rather limited. I still haven't heard upper level Paradigms, PSBs, Monitor Audio, or any Totem, Revels, Dynaudio, etc., so to answer that question for me is impossible, what I have heard, I would say probably the ML's or the B&W CM9's. I think the Def Techs are fairly neutal too. I thought the Cantons were fairly neutral too, but then I was comparing them to both a forward speaker the MA RS's and a laid back speaker in the Dali's. The Cantons weren't as "warm" as the Dalis but not near as "bright" as the MA RS6's. So I guess you could say that they were neutral in comparisson, but, still to me they had more of a warmth then a compelte neutrality. If you understand me.

I think that is another thing too, when auditioning speakers, you have several speakers that you are listening too and you almost can't help to say, this one is X(bright or forward) and this one was Y(warm or laidback), because of the way we hear the sound and we have to identify that sound as something. You know what I mean?

Put down your drink or food, cause I dont want you to choke when you read this, but given that the speakers are somewhat crappy overall and they are boomy and the clarity and detail leaves something to be desired, but Sony speakers happen to be fairly neutral too. Believe it or not. They just suck.

Thanks for suck a helpful answer. So you would recommend me to listen to Dali and RS6 and choose between them.

Why would Marantz 5003/5004 or an Onkyo 707 make me happier?
By the way, Marantz 5003 is like 607 Onkyo in price

Listen to all the speakers you can and let yourself decide what you like and what you want.

The Marantz and Onkyo 707 just have better amps then the 607, if the 607 and 5003 are the same price, then I would get the 5003 anyday over the 607. The Marantz receivers are really close to spec, I mean within a watt or 2 of the stated specs. Plus you will have pre-outs in case later you want to add an external amp.

Are you in Jail? LOL..... I take it the room is about 8 feet by 11 feet? Yes they should play well in that room, they may be a little loud. Did you hear the RS6's in person?

I would still get the Marantz, the RS6's (if thats what your getting) are 6 ohm speakers and you want a receiver that will handle that load well, and the Marantz can.

and what is the model of Marantz, which will suit me ? What`s about Denon\Onkyo, I can spend about 900-1100 $ for a receiver. Yeap, RS 6 is the choice.

The SR6003 can be had for $700 pretty much anywhere right now. The only drawback to it is a lack of hdmi inputs. It has 3 which might not be enough for you down the road. But it's power ratings are dead on, and it's reviews are all great.

You could also consider getting a cheaper receiver with pre-outs and getting an amplifier for your front sound stage.

Also Newegg has the Onkyo 707 for $570, with coupon code RECEIVER111 offer expires today.

Zed,
He is in Russia......

Mzog, the 5003 or the 6003 would be a little beefier. otherwise see about the Denon 2309/2310 or the 2809/10, or the Onkyo 707 or 807.

Nice choice of speakers.

The price are higher in our country, so i can afford: (prices from low to high)
1) Denon 1910(the lowest price in the list)
2) Marantz 5004
3) Onkyo 707
4) Denon 2310 (the highest price, the most expencive i can afford)
What receiver from the list will be the best choice for MA RS6 ?
