Default Subwoofer choice

ALot of people here recomend the BIC acoustech 100..

but i was wondering would the Klipsch KSW-12 Synergy Series 12" be worth the extra 100?

What i honestly want is a sub that would hit hard and high volumes with minimal distortion at all. also be clear and precise to the frequency ranges and also one that can go as low as it can. I remember an altec lansing one i had in 96 being rated at 20hz.. cant find anything lower than 29 or 30 tho.

look into outlaw audio.com. ive got the lfm-1 plus subs and them bad boys cant get down to 18hz. about 600 apiece with shipping. they are definitely worth your time to at least check out.

I've gotta say that I have never heard a ported subwoofer that has delivered audio the way that it should. I have used many different sealed subwoofers of higher quality with great success, and after listening to cheap subs from a bunch of different manufacturers and good stuff, I decided on the top of the line Velodyne (at the time) for my setup. Velodyne HGS-18 - the thing is a beast.

In my car I have the JL 12W7 - also a beast.

Recently though I installed a cheap 12" in-wall (seal enclosure) subwoofer with a Bash 300 amp from Parts Express and was truly suprised with how good the sound was from it.

At the end of the day, you will get more volume from a ported enclosure, but you will get more precise sound from a sealed enclosure, but you will need more power to drive it.

Audiogon and eBay can be your friend on this.

i own the H100, trust me, its great. although, with your specs i'd go with an HSU VTF-2 sub if u can afford it , goes down to 18 Hz too i think:

You should check out HSU-Research and their subs. Many think you cannot do better for the price.

thanks a ton guys.

i spent all 2 of my classes looking int the mentioned HSU subs and by god i havnt heard one bad thing about it at all.

Unfortunately i will have to sacrifice purchasing my speakers for the time being in order to get this. I can get those later tho so no biggie but bass first for me.

Precisely why I went with a Paradigm Servo 15v2.

15", 4500 Watts, 1500 Watts RMS, 12Hz @ 120dB, US$2299.

It's just gorgeous.

Having said that if you don't want to spend thousands on a sub I would agree with the VTF-2 recommendation - good sub.

It is not going to blow people off the couch like a Velodyne DD-15, Kef Model 209 or Paradigm Servo 15v2, but it will give good extension and should put a bigger smile on your face than the other two you were looking at.

For $499 the VTF-2 MK3 should perform better than any other sub on the market for that price.

I'm running a JL Audio 13W7 with the 1000/1 pushing it, love it. Now if I could just find a home theater amp that runs at 3 ohms to push it

BTW... Check these out. They are using 2 13W7's and a 3800 watt RMS(yes, RMS!!). Site says $11,000. But they can he had for $7500. Also 360lbs haha.

Well I'm audio junkie, I don't like harsh sounding systems I've owned a velo. It wasn't a top of the line model and it really was a great preformer, that being said I wanted much more bass so I shopped around and found that I liked the sound of boston acoustics subwoofers, the problem was money so I turned to their car audio line for help boston acoustics has ready made subwoofers look at the G5 models, they can be had in 3 flavors ported, sealed, and my favorite with a tunable passive radiator. These are passive subwoofers I power mine with an SAE A501 what I like is just how good it sounds with music, and movies.

I bought a HSU Research sub (VTF-2) and I had to reinforce my house to deal with the vibrations induced. If you have steel wall studs you may have to add weight to the studs to reduce or eliminate harmonic vibrations. We also learned to line our kitchen cabinets with Rubbermade shelf liner to help eliminate the dishes clinking together every time we watch a movie. If you are an apartment dweller your neighbors may not want you to have a HSU -Research sub. These subs are extremely tunable with ports you can close for lower bass or leave open for more volume.
