I've gotta say that I have never heard a ported subwoofer that has delivered audio the way that it should. I have used many different sealed subwoofers of higher quality with great success, and after listening to cheap subs from a bunch of different manufacturers and good stuff, I decided on the top of the line Velodyne (at the time) for my setup. Velodyne HGS-18 - the thing is a beast.
In my car I have the JL 12W7 - also a beast. Recently though I installed a cheap 12" in-wall (seal enclosure) subwoofer with a Bash 300 amp from Parts Express and was truly suprised with how good the sound was from it. At the end of the day, you will get more volume from a ported enclosure, but you will get more precise sound from a sealed enclosure, but you will need more power to drive it. Audiogon and eBay can be your friend on this. |
