Default speaker choice help (sorry!!)

I know I posted for speaker help in the past, im sorry!! However I just purchased a onkyo 605 today online for 339$ shipped. Now I've looked at some choices in the past and I plan to sample some polk audio at circuit city but my friend told me you want the Hz rating or w/e to be really low, like 20Hz or 25Hz to be able to hear things like when ships in star wars fly over head cuz he said thats like 28Hz or something so youd want to be able to hear that.
My question is, he's referring to the frequency response right? And also, do i look for this in just the sub frequency response or all the 5.1 speakers (like center and fronts and rears)??? Like what kind of frequency response should I look for, for not only the sub but the other speakers as well?
Thanks in advance.

There's a whole lot more to sound/speaker quality than just how low they go. I very much doubt the speakers at Circuit City go anywhere near 20-25Hz in any meaningful way. Well, maybe the subs might...

yeah i hit him up again and he said it only matters on the sub..
I was wondering in 5.1 system how much sound actually comes from the rears?
I got 2 Polk audio R15's (http://www.amazon.com/Polk-Audio-Two.../dp/B00006I5O4) I was wondering if I could use those as rear surrounds for a few months until i got something better? Their a little large but?

Was thinking of testing the following out (except the sub since CC doesnt have that particular one):

Center:
1x polk CS2BK - 220$ JR 55Hz - 25kHz, 90dB 175W
http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.proc...urce=nsa&nsa=1

Sub:
Polk Audio PSW404 Powered SubWoofer - 264$ 25 - 180Hz 200 Watt Continuous (450 Watt Dynamic)
http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3652388

Front L & R:
Polk Audio Monitor 30 Bookshelf - 151$ 55Hz - 25kHz, 89dB 100W
http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=4032685

or

2x polk MONITOR50BK - 158$ JR (316$ for 2) 57Hz - 24kHz 89dB 150W
http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3998124

Do you intend to buy a sub? Typical cross-over for mains with a sub in play are 80hz. But most speakers will already have a range starting range around 35hz, give or take 10hz. Make sure to get speakers with at least a 90 db starting point. The higher the db, the more power they can handle at low wattage and will deliver a more dynamic sound. Just as cranking loud movies requires. This will generally garantee a lower distortion rating at higher volumes as well. Just remember, in movies, you may not actually be listening at a continuous loud volume, but when explosiions, i.e. loud sounds instantly explode thru the system, you want your speakers to be able to handle these Spikes in extreme volume levels without distortion or damaging your speakes.

Speakers to use for movie playback have to reproduce sound in an specific manner. Most movie soundtracks send 60% of the sound through the center channel. This means that you need to place high importance on the center channel speaker and its ability to reproduce a full range of sound. The R and L Front speakers are next and they should be the same speakers or sound the same, as an example, in Mask of Zorro as the film begins Zorro walks from the R front to the center of the stage and you hear his footsteps as he moves the the center. If the Front R and L speakers sound the same then his footsteps sound the same as they move from one speaker to the center. Front speakers are also very directional so you can tell where the sound comes from. Surround speakers may be directional but in the better systems they tend toward the omni directional type so as to provide a filling sound but with less directional information so as to not sound like it is always coming from the same spot but instead from over there sort of.

Correct, You should not actually notice the direction of the rear sound except that its behind you, many people turn up there rear speakers to loud.

What did you get from them?? I took a look at their site and their A3 - 300 Subwoofer looks nice, 18hz - 100

Looking at their home theatre package builder I could probably only afford:
A6 - 5T5 - MTM Pair Please select the main speakers for your 5.1 system
A6 - 6T6 - MTM Single Please select the center channel speaker for your 5.1 system
Could use my polk r15's to save 150$ Please select the rear speakers for your 5.1 system
A3 - 300 Subwoofer Please select the subwoofer for your 5.1 system
$718.25

Methinks you are confused. ;-)

A speaker's sensitivity is a measure of how loud it is (at a distance of one meter), given an input of 1W. It is nothing to do with power handling. The sensitivity also has nothing to do with how dynamic a speaker sounds; the sensitivity is an indication of how easy a load (for the amp) the speaker is. So, all other things being equal, a speaker with a lower sensitivity needs more power from the amp for a given volume than one with a higher sensitivity.

For example, for a given sound level, a speaker with a sensitivity of 85dB will need twice as much power as a speaker with a sensitivity of 88dB (3dB = a doubling of power), assuming each speaker presents the same load (resistance and inductance).

I forgot to include in my post that I ordered the Onkyo TX-SR605, if that makes any difference in pairing it with the element designs.

For my Mains I have the A6-6T6 Towers, Center the A6-6T6 MTM, Rear Surrounds A6-5T5 MTM's, and the A2-300 for my sub.

If your looking to get the 5T5 MTM's for your main L/R Speakers stick with the 5T5 MTM for your center as they are the same speaker and will match each other perfectly, the 6T6 MTM will overplay the L/R Mains by a ton as its a beast of a speaker. It was desinged to match the A6-6T6 Towers and was only released last week. The 5TC's would make for excelent rear surrounds as well and you could always buy them later or upgrade to another pair of 5T5 MTM for better midbass. And youll love the A3-300, Its the Upgrade to my sub with their 350w amp. and let me tell you my 200w amp still shakes my entire house.

Dont forget to use the package builder, and if you need a custom package they are more than happy to do so through chat or phone. 15% off makes a huge difference.
