Default Ps3 Hard Drive Failure????

So, I got my PS3 about 2 weeks ago. Here's what I've done with it.

1) connected to the internet and upgraded the firmware.

2) Played COD4 for a total of 6 hours (probably going to sell it)

3) Watched about 5 movies.

4) Listened to a few CDs through it.

I got home last night, popped in The Shining, and the screen was frozen on the weird ambient light thing that comes up when start the PS3, so I pop the disc out, put it back in, and Nothing....... I turned it off, and on, and it said "Hard Disk Corrupt, press "X" to restore" I pressed X, it went through a restore type of deal for 5 minutes or so, then restarted..... once it started up, it said "hard disk corrupt" and I hit "X" to restore again, but this time it was 6 seconds, and it fired right up, recognized the movie, and played.

Should I take this right back to the Sony-Style store now, or is this a problem that is truely resolved now?????? I just think 2 weeks, and limited use, this product should be working fine.

It's on top of a rack, so it has all the ventilation it needs.

I did a search here, that came up empty, so I appologize if this has been addressed before.

thanks,

Call Sony support and open up a ticket.
They might just send you a new hard drive to replace the one you have.
The swap is really easy to do.

If its within 30 days, take it back and exchange it. I'd rather get a new one.

Damn.... I was hoping that would be the case. I'm not looking forward to doing the 30 minute firmware upgrade again, but I'll do it if I have to.

thanks guys.

If you download your firmware upgrade to a PC and place it on a USB drive, it will do the firmware update a lot faster than 30 minutes. I always do mine that way instead of using the wireless connection to get it.

Just to update.... since the drive did a "recovery" and works right now, the sony people at the store, despite the fact that it's 2 weeks old, said "All PS3 sales are final"

I'm pretty irked about it, but on the bright side, it's working fine now.

That's not the retailer's policy. Where did you buy it?

Is your status symbol too low? Maybe a massive collection of Blu-rays next to you PS3 will help

Sorry, that thread you made still makes me laugh

just go to a store that doesnt specialize in electronics but sells ps3s...buy a new one....put your broken one in the bag and return it....tell the store it wont work....this wont hurt the retailer as they make nothing off consoles...essentially any store that sells a ps3 is really a sony store....they will do the work for you....sounds bad to do something like that but if they told you all sales are final....punch back....you'll be fine
