Am I alone in my dirty little secret?
When I am looking at Blus to buy if it doesn't have at least 5.1+ LPCM, TrueHD or DTS-HDMA I don't bother with it? I purchased 6 blus the other night. And everyone of them was chosen because of the audio along with whether I'd enjoy the film. |

congrats for having high standards and thanks for sharing a bit of your personal life.
LOL sorry, I am one of those people who is fine with 5.1 DD and DTS. The major reason is I dont want to be spoiled with HD sound and be unhappy when watching cable tv (sports and movies) and playing video games. And I have never had issues with regular audio, needless to say one day I will upgrade to HD sound but I dont think ill ever be in a situation where I wont buy a movie because it does not contain a certain HD track. Here is my list of importance when choosing a movie. Acting, story, PQ, then sound. Last edited by lildawgryan; 02-06-2008 at 07:00 PM. |

I'm actually curious to see if others have similar buying patterns to me. I'm one of those guys who invested in 5.1 surround 5-6 years ago and feel cheated by DD and DTS at the time. And then along came Blu. |

You are not alone in this. The beautiful image of 1080p and the acoustically perfect experience that is lossless audio give me a great amount of joy. So much so that I have often purchased Blu-ray movies I otherwise wouldn't have.
In fact, I have gained new appreciation for some movies. Some that I would have previously classified as rentals like "The Day after Tomorrow" became an instant must own when I saw DTS-HD MA and AVC 26 MBPS Video transfer. The visceral experience, for me, overcame the weak script. With DVD I only bought movies for the story and the acting. Now I can buy movies for those reasons, AND the spectacle that is Blu-ray image and sound. |

I've quoted this post because I realized that of those 6 blus I purchased a couple of them I owned on DVD. They we're meidocre (Xmen 3) but 6.1 PCM was just too tempting! The day after tomorrow eh....26Mbps video and HDMA...sounds yummy! There I go again. I'm glad I'm not alone though... |
