My guess is that we will see next the same with The President's Analyst! I just wish we could get the original ending.

Saw this announcement as was pleasantly surprised. I already own the Imprint Blu-ray from Australia, so I'll probably pass on it, but I'm glad it's getting a Stateside release.

Ok so this, like "Secret Of The Incas" was just released by Imprint in Australia. While the announcements for both on this website say it's a "NEW 4K RESTORATION OF THE FILM FROM THE ORIGINAL CAMERA NEGATIVE", it makes me wonder if it's just a coincidence that these two not-easily available titles (at least for a long while) are released by Kino Lorber just months after Imprint, and they are different new restorations, of if the Imprint ones were also the same new 4k restorations?

I'm taking a wild guess that Paramount provided the same new 4K restoration to both Imprint and Kino.

The Imprint (for both films) is absolutely not from a 4K restoration.

u can check the Imprint The counterfeit Traitor screencaps on this site and Kino's US release screencaps and make comparisons. kino claimed theirs was from a brand new 4k scan and its a significant upgrade.

Imprint has this annoying habit of somehow getting garbage masters .

If kino says their new release of Carpetbaggers will be from a 4 k scan i believe them because Imprint always advertise this on their cases on the rare cases they receive a 4k master . The Imprint Australian carpetbaggers just said it was from a "1080p presentation of the film". It looks like the Itunes master but at least Imprint left in the Grain

Carpetbaggers was filmed in Panavision and colour was technicolor. If done right , it should look sensational

I have only seen this film on commercial television in full-frame, so I might buy the Kino to see it uncut and in widescreen.

Love the slipcase artwork!

A tiny bit surprised that Julie Kirgo and David Del Valle, two colleagues from the Twilight Time days, recorded their commentaries separately for this 150-minute movie.

Harold Robbins’ (Nevada Smith, Stiletto) bestseller about ’30s Hollywood comes to the screen in a torrent of frank, controversial and (for the times) sensational scenes that helped break the Production Code. George Peppard (Breakfast at Tiffany’s, P.J.) is the ruthless tycoon who (with amazing parallels to Howard Hughes) builds a multimillion-dollar empire. Carroll Baker (Baby Doll, The Big Country), who performs a razzle-dazzle striptease atop a glittering chandelier, is the Jean Harlow-type star. In addition to its depiction of the wild life in Tinseltown’s early days, the film also boasts Alan Ladd’s (Lucky Jordan, Shane) terrific final screen performance as the hero’s sidekick, Nevada Smith (later portrayed in the film’s prequel by a gunslinging Steve McQueen). Featuring Bob Cummings, Martha Hyer, Elizabeth Ashley, Lew Ayres, Martin Balsam, Ralph Taeger, Archie Moore and the daring direction of Edward Dmytryk (The Caine Mutiny, Mirage).

Hopefully this version is uncut. Both the Australian Blu-ray and the version from the American iTunes store have been cut. Only the German TV version is uncut.

I guess we'll have to seek out that elusive "German TV print" to find out...

A book and movie I actually enjoyed quite a bit. I have a copy of the DVD, but I haven't watched it yet. I'll be sure to keep an eye on this one.

Looks fantastic, the elmer bernstein score (as hammerlover pointed out before) is great, particularly the opening credits theme.

the movie to me its too long, 2 and a half hours of harold robbins material is much more than I can stomach, but dmitryk does a good job, carroll baker looks great, and its a bit less boring that you'd expect.

George peppard does a good job (playing?) the odious self centered selfish megalomaniac, apparently not too far away from his real persona. Ive never liked him, but he's a cool actor. He has things of young paul newman, both incredibly conceit, but unlike newman, who improved and became much more likeable as he aged, peppard remained the same.
