Default Problems with 100GB blu rays?

I'm trying to watch The Batman on my Xbox Series X. However, it skips randomly during the movie. I've tried 2 copies and it still happens. Other 4K Blu Rays in the past have worked as well (Ex. The Big Lebowski).

I came across a few articles:

https://www.thefpsreview.com/2022/01...ing-to-owners/

https://www.reddit.com/r/4kbluray/co...disc_freezing/

https://www.reddit.com/r/4kbluray/comments/v3lxj1/question_about_100gb_discs_on_xbox_series_x/

I guess certain players have issues with 100GB discs? Could this be the issue?

Sony players are well known for causing problems with triple layer discs.
I myself have not encountered any issues with Oppo or Panasonic players.

Unfortunately people learn this the hard way. It's not the discs. Or even if you frame it like they are worse quality readable? It's still... the players. And when you go with a Panasonic you'll have no issues. Or at least very very few issues compared with other brands and cheaping out on 4K UHD gives you a worse experience.

I tested a DVD and a regular Blu-ray on my Series X, and zero problems.

It must be an issue with certain 4K Blu-rays, as mentioned above.

Looks like I'll get a stand alone Panasonic!

Dunno which ones are 100GB or 66GB, but lately I've been having issues with the following discs (all from the US):

The Batman (pixelates and locks up on chapter 5, forcing me to skip to chapter 7)

The Northman (audio dropouts and pixelated video on chapter four, during the high time chant/ritual just before the berzerker raid)

Wonder Woman 1984 (main menu no longer loads completely, with the background image being a pixelated mess or a black screen, and the disc pixelates/skips and drops audio on chapter 7 and I have to skip to chapter 8)

Hobbs & Shaw (as of today this disc no longer reads, despite showing no previous signs of issues)

Denis Villeneuve's Dune (started with a brief audio dropout during the opening voiceover just before the WB logo, has now graduated to being entirely unreadable)

These issues are the same on both my LG UBKM9 player and my Panasonic DP-UB820 player. Also, I looked under a bright light but find that there are no scratches, dirt, or smudges on the surface of the discs.

Indeed, it is the players. The reference UHD-BD player design and first player chipsets were not tested/designed with replicated BD-100 discs, because they weren't really available at the time, due to issues with materials. There are three known player chipsets used in players, one from Panasonic and two from Mediatek. Most players seem to have the Mediatek ones, but we don't know if they are using the first-generation chipset or the second-generation one. On the other side of that, we also don't know much about the drives used in these players, which is an unknown factor in reading BD-100 discs. Unfortunately, the player market has collapsed entirely, with no further interest in developing the tech, so we're stuck with what we have and wanting what we don't have and really need, which is better players.

Thanks.

Well, they all used to work and now they don't. The Panasonic player is new (intended to replace the LG, which I assumed was the problem) and the problems are replicated on both players. Add to that is the fact that these issues were not there on day one, I believe my issues are disc related rather than player related.

Also, Star Trek Into Darkness and Michael Bay's Transformers both give me problems on the LG, but play flawlessly on the Panasonic. So those two I chalk up to being issues with the LG.

Different strokes. Sony has been the All-Star for me, while Panasonic was the problem child.

With a Panasonic back-pedal, jus' one and a half strikes against. You're still at bat.

Did they work before? You might have either a greasy substance on the case and may need to wash them with light dish soap and water if they never worked there is an invisible substance left over on discs from the manufacturing process they look clean but they aren’t. Ps5 seems to play those discs just fine though I guess the other players are a little more touchy.

They all worked before. Nothing on the disc surface. Tried cleaning Hobbs & Shaw, using water, lens cleaner, and a microfiber cloth. Got it to a mirror sheen. Still wouldn't read anymore.

I recently had my first playback issue with a Lionsgate BD-100 (Dirty Grandpa). Granted it was a used copy so maybe that was it but I've played a lot of used Lionsgate discs and didn't have problems before.

Another one that gave me problems was Westworld. I think the fourth season was the only one that I didn't have issues with, and the second season would stutter on basically every disc. All of them were new, too. Interestingly, I didn't have a single problem with House of the Dragon.

The Wolf of Wall Street also would freeze during the scene where Margot Robbie's character was sitting on the floor.

I haven't had any problems with The Northman or Dune.

I’ve had great luck with the Panasonic 820, I’ve never had a playback issue with a BD-100. I’ve had two BD-66 releases freeze badly to point I couldn’t finish the movie. They were Madman and In Bruges, I got replacement discs and no issues with those.

I've read, that cleaning with warm water and a soft soap(hand soap diluted) removes the film left on during the pressing process. The only film, I ever have this issue with is Ready Player One.

They gave my Sony X800 fits. Returned it under warranty and got a second one and it gave that player fits too. Finally just bought a different brand (LG) and they all worked fine. Now I have a Panasonic and they still seem to work fine.

I also bought a Panasonic recently after having just about every BD100 choke on the Sony. So far every discs has worked fine. I just kept the Sony for SACD.

Just finished The Dark Knight (triple decker UK/Euro disc) on the X700. Not even the slightest glitch for the entire duration. Although, the other day it started getting jittery on the third layer of Everything Everywhere All At Once, which went away immediately after stopping and resuming playback. As far as any BD-100s having issues, the only ones in my whole collection have been EEAAO, Man of Steel and House of the Dragon Disc 3, the latter of which is definitely a defect with the disc itself (visible irregularity in the plastic surface right the edge of the disc and it freezes at the same spot on multiple players from different brands).

I had the Sony X700. It would freeze on most BD-100s. I upgraded to the Panasonic 820, and all discs I had problems with now play fine.
