Default R.I.P. Roy Scheider

Roy Scheider, star of Jaws, one of my all time favorite movies, has passed.

I loved SeaQuest! I don't think I've ever seen a repeat of that on Sci-Fi or anything. I also don't think I've seen it available on DVD.

I think my favorite of his movies was 2010 the year we make contact.

He will be missed.

He flew a helicopter too, you'd think that he could have found a way to combat his ailment using that spiffy helmet?

As I told my fiancee' just moments ago, he was either a personality that alienated many in Hollywood (i.e., he wasn't popular at parties and what not), or his work was so good, appeared so *effortless* , that people didn't recognize he was "acting". I think the truth is the latter. Scheider was extraordinary in "everyman" roles - his humanity and warmth virtually carried Jaws across the finish line. It wasn't the *shark* that needed to work, the *people* needed to work, and Scheider was amazing in his somewhat unsung straight man role as the chief of Amity Police.

I cried tonight. I feel like I just lost a friend of the family.

Maybe I did.
