Default LED light behind tv

looking at the home theater pics i noticed some tv's with led lights behind the tv. I thought it looks awesome, but does anyone know if the lights affect the tv image or colors when light up. Also does anyone think that this is a lil corny?

Some new HDTVs have an ambient light system that takes the most dominate color on the screen and shines it behind the TV. I think it is a bit gimmicy, but not many TVs do this. I hardly ever watch things on my TV with all the lights off. Not until I have a projector will i do that. I usually have a light on in the corner to give a little light to the room. Not distracting, not bright. Just enough.

Philips uses this to cover up for the fact that their HD sets are mediocre...

they are by no means bad at all....it's just that for the same money, you can get something better and not as heavy....

I've noticed the ambilight sets are much heavier than other HD sets of the same size because of the ambilight technology...

I'd rather get a smaller Sony, Sharp or Samsung set....maybe Panasonic, their newer models are hit/miss IMO...but for the same money, I'd rather downgrade a few inches and get a better set...

i think what i was looking at in the home theather pics thread was not something that came with the tv, but instead LED lights that were purchased and stuck on the back, ill look and see if i can find what im talking about

research bias lighting, I think the colored light is corny, but correct colored bias lighting makes a big difference.
I installed one on my set up, the effect with all other lights off is really nice, my wife really loves it too

I have a flourescent light that is 6500K and 98 CRI and it sits behind my Sammy HL-S5087W. Supposedly this helps with eye fatigue when watching in the dark. It looks cool too !

Same here, got a small lamp stuck behind my 26" 1080i CRT as per the recommendation on Digital Video Essentials calibration DVD.

Hey, I guess you're talking about my setup. Just installed these lights. I really like them but I guess it just comes down to personal taste. My wife thinks they look awesome, same with my friends. Whether you are using the TV or not they add great subtle lighting, the one I bought has 7 different colors including white, I beleive Ikea also sell some that are just white for cheaper than the colored ones. With them turned on it almost seems like the TV is floating, very cool effect. The pictures I posted doesn't really do it justice.

Not at all. I mounted the lights on the back of the TV facing the wall behind, so only the wall becomes illuminated. I would highly recommend it, especially if you like to look of it from the pictures I posted, it will look alot better in person.

it actually helps the picture. The idea is you turn off other light sources and turn this one one. There is no light reflecting off of the screen (which degrades the image your eye sees) and you are not watching in total darkness so that your eyes are not strained. The word on light color is you want daylight or 6500K and 98 CRI as this color light is best at reproducing colors. Also calibrate your set and enjoy

It helps your eyes adjust in the dark as well. It looks good and altho the TV is only mediocre, it's better than a Walmart Brand.

Unless you mean tv setups with LEDs mounted behind it, that's what i did, it's my super cheap wannabe ambi-light

Also, i appear to have it the magic number 300...whoo
