Default Light on Sub sometimes goes out.

My sub has a red light on the back. I recently noticed about every 2-3 days the light will go out. I pull the cable out & reinsert and it's fine for a few days. Any ideas?

Could well be a (dry joint) on the (PCB) printed circuit board, that needs de-soldering and re-soldering that shouldn’t take no more than 1 hour to remove the plate amp from the subs enclosure to inspect with non-metallic object gently pressing on the suspected component to see if its lose.

Dry joints are fairly common and I had to strip my AVR 9 year old Kenwood KRF-X9050D THX select down to re-solider three parts last-year, it took me, me around 4 hours to undone it and solder it and put it all back together again along with all the cables!!! SIGH

It is a 10" powered Sound Dynamic sub. It is 8 yrs old and has gone through 2 moves. I'm actually petfified to remove the back.

Well if your not confident then don’t you touch the wrong component by accident with your, bare fingers it might be fatal.

Get someone who is qualified to look at it, someone that isn’t going to rip you off with silly price, just for looking or fixing it.

It still sounds like dry-joint and they are easy to fix, if you know roughly where to look.

i don't know what the sub cost to begin with but, perhaps you might want to think about buying a new one. also you state that the light (gathering indicator light that goes from red to green to let you know the sub is in use or is this a true power on light?) goes off then comes back on but you don't mention is that the sub stops producing LFE during that time. is that the case? if it's not the case and the sub continues to work but the light is going on and off perhaps it's just the indicator light that is dying. again, i'm only going on what you have told us about your issue thus far.

perhaps you can give more details that would be more helpful in your responses. I/we don't want to be giving you the wrong information.

I do not know if this helps or not as the red light on my sub, Definitive Sub, the red light goes off. This is what the manual says : The red LED on the back panel will light up when a signal is sensed and the amplifier turns on. After the cessation of a signal, the red light goes off, it may take up to an hour for the amplifier to actually turn off. In some installations where radio frequency (RF) remotes are present in the area the red light may remain on. This is nothing to be worried about as the amp will be in low idle mode which uses virtually no power.

I did some checking and I believe thats what happens. My sub's red light won't be on till it is "warmed up" I think. If I check as soon as I turn the rec. on the light is off. After a while the light is on.
