Default Plasma too much light?

I getting ready to pull the trigger on a new 50" Panny plasma.

Everyone talks about them (plasmas) having a problem in a well lit room.

1. What kind of problem do they have?

2. What is the definition of a well lit room?

The problem is reflections on the screen. My dad just bought a Panasonic 50pz85u and is having no problems with his, it has an anti-glare coating on the glass panel. If you go see them in showrooms like BB or CC you can see which ones have problems just by looking at them.

I bought this TV and then moved to Florida (From ohio) about a month later.

I must say, as scared as I was about the huge windows and Florida sun- I have had no problems what-so-ever with reflections or anything of that nature.

Pull the trigger!!!! This is a GREAT set.

The main issue is if you have windows that will cause a lot of reflections or lamps that will reflect of the screen.

I have the panny 46" and I can tell you the TV is good enough that I would board up a window before I went to something else, but no, I don't have any problems with light.

i have a 42pz77u... (the fore runner of last years 85). i love it. and again LOVE it. glare is not an issue, because the panasonic has an anti glare filter (or 2nd screen in the tv.) and a spray on coating to help with glare. continue the decision... i wouldnt trade mine for any other tv. enjoy!!

That is the one thing I miss from CRT RPTV. You could restack the screen to move the lenticular to the front. It was AMAZING. It completely eliminated any need for lighting control.

It will be interesting to see if something similar is possible with laser RPTV.

IMO, Panasonic and Pioneer have the best anti-glare screens. I was concerned when I got my Pioneer Elite PRO-1150HD. I sit directly in front of the TV and there is a lamp right next to my chair. There is also a picture window in the adjacent dining room that played havoc with my old 32" Sony Wega, especially on Sunday afternoons during football season (the window faces south).

The window is a complete non-issue. I can leave the curtains open all afternoon and there is no reflection whatsoever. I can't tell you that there is no reflection or glare from the lamp when it is on, but it is barely visible.

I have friends who recently put a Panasonic 50" plasma in their living room (sorry; I'm not sure about the model no.). They have a picture window, facing south, in the wall perpendicular to the screen. I have been there at all times of the day and it has never been a problem.

There are quite a few plasmas that do have a glare problem. If you suspect that you have windows or room lighting that will be an issue, check the screen out in the store before you buy. You might even want to have someone move around the room with a flashlight pointed at the screen so you can compare the anti-glare qualities of each screen.

T.V's are big ticket items.....

Curtains only cost a couple hundred bucks in many cases..... and increase acoustics, and asthetics.

Seems like a no-brainer.

I get a lot of light in my living room where my plasma is and I will admit the reflection is a bit noticeable. However, it is by no means horrible and I too just close the curtains. I don't think it should be a big enough factor to convince you to not buy the tv.
