Default Original AVP Unrated Edition

Why is there another version coming out and what will it have that the first version doesn't have. Mainly i want to know if it is going to be worth my money to get the unrated version.

The original BD release of AVP has Seemless branching with the Rated and Unrated versions on the same disc.

It has a digital copy - isn't that where you can put a copy of the movie onto your psp?

I was wondering what a digital copy was also, or if the game on the unrated version is any good?

a digital copy is something you can copy onto your computer then put it on your Ipod or zume, etc. etc.

Dunno about the game.

However my opinion of the unrated version of AVP is that ... actually the version in theaters seems better in my opinion. For some reason the unrated version seems more mixed matched for some strange reason.
There is some added blood but it was just added in and looks awful.

I hope they re-encoded it because the current version have ALOT of compression artifact in the darkness scene. (You can easily see it when the 3 Predator enter the Pyramid when the Human takes their gun ) and many other scene as such...

Note that a Collector's Edition reissue of the original 'Alien vs Predator' has also been reported for Blu-ray release on April 15; asked to confirm those reports this morning, a Fox rep said they were "not true."
Looks like ya'll can hang on to your original copies

I wasn't going to double-dip anyway unless it was worth it. I'm glad Fox isn't bothering.

Default Was anyone else disappointed with the AVP transfer?

I know this has been discussed before, but I'm hoping a few techies could fill me in on this. I just watched this now, and IMO I'd give the transfer a hesitant 3 at best. Some scenes were good, and some were bad--the fluctuation was quite distracting. Yes, detail was there but how do you explain the abundance of grain/noise in the picture? I know grain is a inherent part of film, but there seemed to be unintended noise too.
But do you honestly think this is the best it can look? Maybe another codec would've been better?

I was somewhat disappointed as well but I don't think studios should be wasting all their time upgrading currently available titles unless they plan on doing a FREE upgrade program. They should just concentrate on bringing top-quailty releases from here on out...

I seen AVP in theaters. I bought it at full retail when it first came available on DVD. I just bought it on Blu-ray a few months ago. It would really bite having to sell it off and buy the newest version once more. I would much rather have Fox release the Alien or Predator series instead.

Maybe in a few years but right now with BD's total release amount being low compared to DVD? No...

Let's face the facts, a great deal of Fox titles have somewhat disappointing PQ. If Fox redid those, we would be screwing ourself out of many great upcoming/unannounced titles that are just waiting in their vaults! Remember, Fox pumps out an average of 4 or so titles a month. Do we really need them delaying all the great upcoming & catalog titles over this? I would take True Lies, ID4, I Robot anyday over a AVP remaster.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for top quality releases!

Trust me, I Love Fox movies.. They ARE getting much better in the quality control department but they seem to favor minimum effert, features, gobs of copy protection and always want top dollar. At least they always deliver the goods in the audio department. I wouldn't doubt it if DTS pays them to release DTS-HD MA audio on every movie. I bet they are making a killing off each Blu-ray sold to

Rest assured, a re-release will come it time... They gave us featureless releases for the soul intent of double dipping. NOT bashing, just being realistic...

if they did upgrade it they would call it a collector's edition or something like that like how Warner is doing with the titles that had crappy audio like A Christmas Story and bringing out Hd-dvd only titles like Batman Begins and calling it a collector's edition. it will be in that same concept if they did reissue the AVP1 on Blu-Ray

It was denied by a Fox Rep, so it's pretty much confirmed. Fox didn't issue a press release that said there was going to be a new transfer for AVP, so it was all hearsay.

I've completely lost all hope of the Alien or Predator franchises on high-def. I mean, in some scenes AVP--which was made in 2004--looked like a ten or fifteen year-old film! And some scenes popped up and showed the wonder high-def was capable of. But, if that was the best they could do I can only wonder what Alien/Aliens/Predator would look like. Specially, Aliens would look quite horrible. The standard was grainy enough, shot on super 35, do I even need to think about how it would look on high-def?

Heh, you're being tough on it. Even P.B. at hidefdigest gave it a solid 4/5 on PQ. He did mention some of the same issues though.
Quote:
So 'Alien vs. Predator' still looks very good overall despite a few drawbacks, and rates a four-star transfer.
On the other hand, the review here agrees with your rating. It got a 3.5 here.
Quote:
it is an early release from Fox, and I found the results to be promising yet somewhat underwhelming.
I thought it was okay (it didn't really bother me) but I definitely wouldn't use it as demo material.

Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me but I thought the pq was very good, but then I have a great tv to view on. Most of the movie is in the dark so what do you expect. Daylight or bright scenes always look better, well usually.
