Default Is Good HDMI Really Worth The $$$ ?

So i've looked around for a thread for this but couldn't seem to find anything. sorry if it's been addressed before.

Ok, so i was at best buy and the "overly smart" employee told me that the monster $100 dollar 4 ft HDMI cable would make a world of difference comparing to a say $20-$40 dollar HDMI cable. I am wondering if anyone has been able to experience this making that much of a difference. I think i have a 9' HDMI from walmart that was around $30... it may be rca brand, or phillips. Should i get a better one?

Also, should i go from the blu ray player straight to the tv? will this give a better signal? i have it going to receiver then to tv... via all HDMI... i would think if i had one GOOD HDMI cable going to the receiver i would also need the same quality cable going from the receiver to the tv.... right? is there any benefit in sending the video signal through the receiver rather than just straight to the tv?

Thanks for your help!

no difference between bargain basement cables and top end cables. get the best deal you can. i'm sure someone has a link to give you that will give you one for under $10.

NO!

Don't get scammed like so many others.

30 dollar cables from wallyworld work just as good as the 200 dollar monsters.

I even get DTS-HD-MA no problem from my RCA HDMI cables that I bought at Wallyworld in 2006. They are great.

I have both the Monster cable and the Phillips that I got from Walmart for 29.99 and I can see no difference.

From what I have read and seen if you don't need a long cable you don't have to spend alot. Save the money on cables and pick up some Blus.

how about the blu ray player to the receiver to the tv? is that necessary? what would you say to just going from blu to tv...

and whats this talk about people getting audio from the blu ray to the receiver via HDMI? I have to use an Opticle cable to get audio to my receiver? am i doing something wrong or what?

What's considered a long cable? Right now I'm running a cheap 25 ft. HDMI (long cable?) from my PS3 to the HDTV, but plan to get an Oppo HDMI switch box for my other HDMI components as well. Do tell.

i think that would be considered very long.. i have a 9ft from blu player to receiver, then another 9 ft from receiver to to LCD. I am wishing i didnt have 9ft cables... can someone tell me if shorter cables, say 4ft, would be better than 9ft? signal wise....

Still confused about the whole audio from blu ray to receiver via HDMI...

If you don't have an HDMI capable receiver then yes, you'll want to go optical from the BDP to the receiver for your sound. You're going to get great 5.1 Multi-channel DD but you won't get True HD and other codecs off that disk that can be heard through HDMI receivers. I'm in the same boat and I have great sound reproduction just the way I described.

Blu-Ray to TV via HDMI / Blu-Ray to Receiver via Optical / Cable Box to TV via HDMI... you're set.

I run 8 foot HDMI cables.

I do however have HDMI on my receiver... but the sound is just pass through i think... If i dont hook up optical from blu ray to receiver i get no sound... its really dumb to me why they would have hdmi inputs that cant decode audio. There are 2 inputs on my receiver and 1 out.

So if i have HDMI on my receiver but it wont carry the audio.. whats the point?

same here, amazon has brand new hdmi cables for cheap, I got a 6ft cable for 5 dollars shipped, and it works awesome. Use the extra $95 to buy blu-rays to go along with your extemely cheap but just as good HDMI cable.
