I have a receiver that does not have HDMI (Nakamichi AV-10) but does have mutlichannel analog inputs. My BD player is a PS3. Is there anyway to get Loseless Audio without upgrading my receiver or getting another BD player?

I am in the same boat as you. My Sony STR-DE935 has a setup for analog 5.1 PCM, but the PS3 has no outputs. I am looking into the STR-DA4300ES or 5300 to replace my 935, but I will keep it around in case I ever get a dedicated BD player and set it up in another room.

Thanks to all for your replies. It's time to upgrade and I think I have narrowed it to these two:
1. Pioneer 94 TXH 2. Denon 3808 I alos like tthe Onkyo 805/875, but I only have an inch of clearance with my cabinet so with the reported heating issue with the Onkyo, I am ruling it out for now. |

I hate that. My reciever will only let me adjust the front speakers. The surround sound speaker blow my ears off. I had to go back to Optical

Between those two, I'd get the Pioneer.

Although there is no current way to get analog multichannel out of the PS3, I have always wondered if somewhere a year or two down the line we might not see a special PS3 output cable & a firmware update to optionally convert PCM internally to analog.
The PS3 does it with 2-channel audio over the included PS3-native output cable; there would seem to be nothing technically stopping multi-channel. I would think it would just be "politically" wrong now for Sony to allow it. But, when full-featured standalone BD players get down to $100-200 dollars in the future, I couldn't see how anyone (BD partners) would be 'hurt' by a $50 analog multi-channel output cable option. |
