I love these games, played them on both Sega CD and PS1.

Cool to these games remembered. I'm waiting on more information before I decide if I'm getting them. Watch for a Limited Run Games edition.

I will be getting it on my PS4, I hope it gets a wide physical release but more then likely LRG will be the only US option for physical.

I hope the games do not get censored, bad translations, any other bad changes, etc.

I will be getting these, though it does occur to me that so much of what I loved about the Sega CD versions--the music, the dialogue, Ghaleon's voice acting--will be completely different. I wish there was some way the originals could be made available as a DLC, but it's my understanding that Victor Ireland--who owns the rights to those titles--is a massive pile of ****. So, it's not likely to happen.

It might depend on what is original to you. My impression is that these are remasters of the PS1 games, so if that was you initial experience with them I think this will have the same music and pretty much the same writing and dialogue.

Unfortunately, pretty much everything about the Sega CD originals will be different for folks like me who grew up with and preferred those versions.

The SEGA CD Eternal Blue save system WD’s implemented can rot in hell.

Speaking as a guy who loved Working Designs and even made a little rule about the haters, I'm with you on this one to the end! Restrictions on saving is just bad design and a QoL reduction. Thankfully cooler heads prevailed on the PS1 port and they actually improved the save system instead!

It’s been a while since I played Eternal Blue. How did it work? Did you have to spend experience to save or something? I seem to recall there being two different types of experience—a pink pool and a blue pool—and you had to spend points from one of the pools (the pink one?) to save.

There was magic XP and regular XP. You had to spend magic XP to save.

Only interested if they re-translate from the ground-up. The, uh, "nostalgia blind" can learn to live with a better translation.

This is a different translation but you know whenever they retranslate these games, they’re always blander, right? Something like Final Fantasy VI loses more eloquent writing from the old SNES Woolsey translation in the current version. The Lunar games would likely seem more generic removing the WD translation, which is in the spirit of this type of humor anyway.

I don't like the assertion that the game and its material is generic when more accurately translated. Inserting Dick jokes and Bill Clinton jokes and nonsense the characters didn't say is insulting to the makers of the game. I don't want a game that sounds like it was written by Woolsey, I want the game's voice better preserved. And yes, you can do that with Japanese to English and vice-versa no matter who wants to say no.

So for now, more accurate translations please. If that's bland to you, well, the original WD version exists.

I think the Eddie Vedder and Shannen Dougherty lines have stood the test of time.

Actually the crew at Studio Alex spoke quite well of the Working Designs translation. In fact, almost all 'liberty-taking' localizations of the old era were produced with the full blessings of the Japanese producers.

Cool. Now can you show me? I have no idea about any of this and would love to see the truth.

I have my old strategy guides for the Sega CD versions of both Lunar games. They had interviews with Victor Ireland and I'm pretty sure he discusses the translations. Unfortunately, they are buried away in a storage bin under the stairs. There are spiders in there so I'm not digging them out.

I’ll never get what people have against Woolsey. I’ve actually played multiple translations of FFVI over the years, including a fan translation. They’re all the exact same game, the meaning is exactly the same, the only difference is his is better written (and a couple censored sprites but that’s not his fault.) That’s what I would call serving the game well - the game’s “voice,” respecting it, making it as good as possible. He DID that!

As for Working Design’s references, that’s one thing, but the general sense of humor actually fits perfectly. We’re talking something like replacing repeated use of “Baka” with more flowery humorous insults, even if it’s just a word that is different but means the same thing, or jokes that don’t land in English with equivalents that do. This is what translations are supposed to do and Working Designs did this at a time when nobody did.
