Guitar Hero / Rock Band - What Works With What

Ok, I've done some research online and I'm trying to determine what peripherals work with what games. I know this is all listed in other places, but it's usually on page 46 of a 72 page thread and then people contradict it. Here's my effort to get the information in one clear, concise post (which I will update if I make any mistakes

All games mentioned are for the PS3 unless otherwise noted.
1) The Rock Band Guitar works only with Rock Band.
2) The Guitar Hero 3 guitar only works with Rock Band.
3) Neither the Guitar Hero 3 or Rock Band Guitar is backward compatible with Guitar Hero 1 or 2 (for the PS2).
4) Some adapters will let you use a Guitar Hero 2 guitar (for the PS2) on a PS3 but none of them are perfect. You can not use a Guitar Hero 2 guitar to play Guitar Hero 3, even with an adapter.

So did I get all that right and does that help anyone?

I thought I read about people using the Guitar Hero 3 guitar with Rock Band as a second (bass) guitar. Or is that not with the PS3.

Not with the PS3. Only Xbox 360 and PS2 have that luxury.

So, if one has a PS2 does it make more sense to get that version because of the flexiblilty between the two, plus all the old GH games?

Actually #4 is wrong.... I have a ps2 adapter for my GH2 controller and it works on the PS3 for GH3, GH2, and GH1. I dont have any problems at all except star power, i have to press select thats it... its the pelican adapter.

If you are talking about GH3, then yes.

Rock Band, no. Rock Band for the PS2 is a severely gimped version and was outsourced to a different developer and not done in house by Harmonix.

The PlayStation 2 version of Rock Band contains a much more stripped-down version of the Band World Tour mode, as 2-4 local players will only be able to play by completing predetermined tiers of songs ordered by difficulty. Players cannot create their own characters, nor can they choose a city, venue, or a setlist to play.

How about the GH: WT guitar working with Rock Band?

Everytime I try playing RB is thinks I've got a microphone plugged in and I can't get it to recognize my guitar.
