At the press conference of Toshiba:

"Q: How many HD DVD players and recorders, exactly, did you sell?
A: 600,000 players in the US -- 300,000 of which were Xbox 360 HD DVD drives. 100,000 units were sold in Europe. And about 10,000 players and 20,000 recorders in Japan. So about 730,000 units worldwide."

Ouch, they were really far of from the million like they claimed and half of the players were shitty 360 add-ons lol!

Well, that right there explains the irrational zealotry on the AV and Home Theater forums!

Also, if someone were really interested in films and the best quality presentation they would not be using a 360 add-on because of the 1080p and lossless limitations. Those users were budget-constrained gamers who never should bought into a videophile product as early adopters.

That also explains their rampant cheapskatism and Sony-hatred too.

Just my .02 cents.
