So take this as positive news that these are not the 13+ year old Lowry scans.

it came from a very high source in WHV who I trust

^^ print film frame vs 4K vv

That'll be lovely

Excellent! The transfer seems fit enough. Have the discs sent to me in Istanbul in 24 hours.

Super excited about this, but what is the source? Just looks like a picture of someone’s computer monitor. Is this legit?

I’m trying to figure out the source of this image. This is mostly replicating what was listed in that Warner email and honestly it’s a surprising turn of events. Warner is distributing the MGM catalog but with the Amazon buyout, I thought there was going to be a lot more red tape with the Bond films. It’s disconcerting because all that is known to exist are outdated 4K SDR Masters. So either there has been quiet work done or they’re just going to do a version of the pre-existing masters and try to apply HDR after the fact.

I wish they’d let me help. I’d send them all of my audio captures immediately.
With this being Warner (given their latest releases) there’s a chance that they’ll include a version of original audio, but it will likely be even more processed versions of the already hideously overprocessed versions found on US BDs.

Thunderball is actually particularly frustrating, that one had two separate theatrical mono mixes with each one specific to a certain territory and for sake of confusion I'm just gonna call them the US and UK mono mixes. Not gonna go into the specific differences but bizarrely for whatever reason, US home video releases utilized what was likely the mono mix used for the UK theatrical release. But since 1993, it's used the US theatrical mix.

The 5.1 remix on the BD afaik doesn't have any new sounds and the like, but the lossy mono mix included on that same disc is a downmix rather than the original. So it'd be nice if Warner corrected that gaffe too.

Oh believe me I know…I made a documentary just on the Thunderball mixes.

Plus, there’s all the rumored and unconfirmed alternative mixes that may exist for most of the early films and other things like the mono mix of Spy that need to be restored.

as much as I want these (and have been waiting for.....) NO. I want individual releases of these justified classics.... and they will come.

Same attitude with the Columbia boxed sets.... (and a good deal of those have come...)

I wish they would just release a whole set of the movies on 4K instead of multiple sets.

With the amount of collectors with no self control the studio would be smart to release each film on its own, actor collections and a complete film box set. And then 6 months later all of that as steelbooks.

I really hope they have done new 4K masters for the ones that Lowry did in 2006 with the frozen grain.

I’d very down to have all 25 Bond movies on 4K. A complete set of all 25 would be amazing but also very expensive. Not sure if we actually get that or not. I can see them doing actor sets and maybe like 5 sets of 5 volumes or something along those lines.

In some cases, those 4K SDR masters would still be preferable to what we currently have on disc. The 4K remaster of Goldeneye in particular is a huge improvement on that ancient HD master used for the Blu-ray.

As for audio, I just hope they fix the ending of the mono track for Goldfinger, which fades out before the final drum hit for some reason.

Also, if they're going to do actor sets, they really should just include OHMSS with the Connery films. It's very much a continuation of them, and it would allow them to keep the numerical continuity intact.

Chances are probably extremely low but wonder if they'll include Never Say Never Again here.

Oh absolutely the 4K SDR masters are vast improvements over each Blu-ray release which come from a variety of masters. I’m just afraid they’ll try to force an HDR grade onto the SDR 4K source.
Goldfinger’s mono has been treated so poorly. At present the best iteration is on the 1988 video master, which is only available in analog form. That’s how far back you have to go to get the Oscar winning sound of the film sounding the way it should.

Nice, but I'm perfectly happy with the big collection boxset on BD. They mostly look great even on a 4K TV.
