Default Anyone feel their Panny Plasma 50' 700u....

Is too dark of a screen? I am buying it tomorrow from Costco and noticed with the 5000:1 ratio its quite dark at its brightest level. It got the best Plasma aside from the pio from consumer reports so I am going to buy it. Has anyone done anything to make it brighter? Can you place a light behind it or is that only for lcd's? Thx

Many people think plasma TVs look too dark because they're used to LCDs being overly bright. Odds are the plasma is more accurate.

That is the way it should be. LCD are too bright for not being acurate in colors.

It doesn't seem any different than the 46" LCD Aquos I had... it seems quite bright actually... and the colors are accurate :-) I am happy with the Panasonic

I have the 50 700u in the bedroom. Great set, though it's break in period is long, you'll be happy with it. Nothing else for the price comes close. Look for a deal, and you can get them for 2300.

Perhaps it's quite dark in a warehouse like Costco, but in an home environment it will be perfect (also you should dim your lights)...

I have an LCD in my room and wish I could take the backlight settings to less than 0! My brother also has an LCD and he likes it in the torch mode which really hurts my eyes!

Also you should consider Ideal-Lume lights from CinemaQuest, these lights improve your lighting conditions...

long break in is to achieve its astounding 100k hour life expectancy, 60k hr half life... yes i know, 60 isnt half of 100, but thats the panasonic statistics.

Actually, the new Panny 700/750 TVs have a 100k half life rating.

Buy it!

I have one and it is great.

There is a black level somewhere in the menus. I forget the exact names for the choices but there are two levels. Something like "Black" and "Light black". I picked the less black setting and it is terrific. The really Black setting was way too dark.

When you get it home it won't seem that way to you. The only reason it looks that way in store is because it is overly bright in a showroom environment, that's why the brighter LCDs tend to shine more.
