Default BD trashing at MSNBC.COM

Here is an article written by someone who probably doesnt even own a BD player....

here is an excerpt:

Upconverting DVD players, which cost around $100, also offer a good alternative for those who don’t want to make the Blu-ray jump but who want better picture quality. While not offering a true-HD experience, they do come pretty close “to near-high def quality,” said Baker.

LMAO!

This guy is clueless

If you think a upconverted DVD looks nearly as good as Blu-Ray you have some serious issues with your eyes. Give this guy a pair of glasses and a kick in the nuts

Anytime the absolute worst marketing consultant in the business, Rob Enderle, is quoted or speaks you can expect nearly the exact opposite to happen.

Maybe that is what makes him good? You can _always_ bank on him being wrong. He has _never_ been right about anything. Ever.

I guess that the new battle cry of the former red ants is "upconvert DVDs are close to High Def". I guess that the idea of downloads was not cutting the mustard,(creating enough FUD) huh?

So where in the original quote it sayign anything resembling "upconverted DVD looks nearly as good as Blu-Ray?" It just days “to near-high def quality” which means near 720p quality which in fact is true. I don't see anything wrong with the original quote.

This quote is pretty low on the trashing totem, I think.

What exactly is the problem with it, the author isn't claiming its the equivalent of hd, merely that for a fraction of the price of a blu ray player, you can get a machine that will give you "better picture quality" not a true hd-experience, but better than sddvd.

?

Seems like much ado. There are quite a few people out there that fit into the category of wanting a better picture but not willing to pay the 3-400$ required for a blu ray.

They do have ties to Microsoft so I am not shocked there's bashing of the BD format on MSNBC.

MSNBC = last place on earth anyone goes for serious information. Apparently General Electric and the MS portions of that network have a bitter taste in their, for one reason or another.

This is a good sign...Rob Enderle clearly has nowhere else to go but MSNBC. Which is basically the end of any small amount of credibility he may have ever had.

And the reporter...don't they employ people who know even the slightest bit about what they write about? Okay, dumb question. Revised: Don't they employ people who know even the slightest bit about anything?

microsoft hi-def is only 640.
look at halo.
so it's right that 480 is not far from 640.
