Default Subtitle Thread

I started this thread to get some Q&A going about anything that has to do with subtitled Blu-ray movies. I spent about 10 minutes searching the forums for answers to the personal questions that I have until I realized that it is useless. Everything is spread out and flakey that has to do with subtitles on Blu-ray movies. I am adding this thread to the blu-ray movies and releases section because it involves a feature on a Blu-ray, one of the criteria for this section of the forum.

My first question is, how do studios determine what subtitles will be on blu-ray movies?

My wife is Korean and it is really weird how some movies have the Korean language subtitles, as well as other Asian language subtitles, and some are barren of any other language than English. Sony is pretty good about Asian subtitles, but it is still a hit or miss kinda thing.

I'd like to know too
my wife is japanese and subtitles are extremely rare, nearly zero
she understands french but many discs have no french sub neither

Well I got an answer from Paidgeek. I am not exactly happy with it, but it does make alot of sense. Here is his reply:

Dude, I got Cruel Intentions yesterday on BD ... It has to have broken the ultimate subtitle record lol ... I kid you not... I dont think any DVD,HD-DVD or any BLU has as many different subtitles as this one!

27 different subtitles!! I couldnt stop laughing, the list kept going on and on!

And Yes, it even had Greek subtitles (there's been a few posts about that lately.)

btw, nice idea, this subtitle thread is a good help for alot of peeps out there. (just not me ;p)
