Default Can't enjoy BD audio!

I have a PS3 and a Onkyo TXSR605, so I can get uncopressed PCM and DTHD. The problem is that I have a 1yr old and my wife freaks out whenever the volume is too loud. Since we usually watch movies when she is sleeping, this is a problem. Any suggestions on how I can turn the volume up to get all those sweet BD audio details?

Only two options that I can think of... and I'm certain that neither is really a solution that you will consider.

#1. Lose the infant.

#2. Lose the wife.

Whatever you decide, I'm so sorry for your loss (wife/child/HD Audio).

Only one option here, my friend.

Sell your child on the black market, buy even more Blu-rays, and listen to them as loud as you want

I have a 5-year, a 3-year, and a 4-month old. Trust me on this - the LAST thing you want to do is have it quiet in the house when they are sleeping. I know many parents who have followed that route and now their kids do wake up at every little sound. When my kids were babies, we would vacuum, watch movies (and I like them LOUD), and talk normally while they were sleeping.

Kids gets used to that very quick and they will become better sleepers for years and years!

I KNOW it's a hard sell to the wife at time, but believe me, by having noise in the house now, you are preparing them for years and years of better sleep. And that, should make every parent happy. Now go

Haha! But seriously, if the child is in another room then it will sound very similar to a thunderstorm. Will your wife freak out the next time one of those rolls through? You may just have to listen quitely for the next few months.

This is 100% true...It works....the hardest thing about doing this is trying and convince the wife.

That was what I was looking for. It will be a battle, but I will try the "get her used to noise so she sleeps better" angle.

If that doesn't work, I may contact the poster who "knows someone who knows someone"!

First child right?

Small word of parental advice. It is better to raise a child used to falling asleep with sound in their enviroment or they will forever be saddled with the difficulty of needing quiet to fall asleep. That from someone who wakes at the soumd of curtains moving with a daughter who can fall asleep in an active construction site.

Whether it be BD HT is your choice of course. Silence? Not a good idea.

Good luck man. I'm serious - nearly every night we pop a movie in, my 4-month is completely knocked-out sleeping right on my wife's chest. We've been watching Die Hards as well and it doesn't matter how much boom my speakers and sub are pumping out - she's just out!

Tell your wife to think about it. The first 9 months of the kids life, he/she lived in an amplifier. Heard everything going on outside - not to mention the constant booming of your wife's heartbeat, and every other internal noise. I've read that it is just a cacophony of noise in there. And they were able to sleep just fine then.

I agree with you 100%. I too have a 3 year old and he is used to the rumbling of my SVS sub when he sleeps in the next room. I guess it's all about "training" them early.

Very interesting to hear it from an adult's point of view who now struggles with that legacy. That sounds like it sucks to have to sleep in an noise-proof chamber.
