Default Do You Actually Enjoy Your Job?

I get so tired after every day of work because I have such long hours and the guests are sometimes annoying jerks. I should probably look for another job...

Sounds like you work for a hotel. Either that or Radio Shack. The only difference is the customer doesn't stay over night.

Sometimes. I get to see and do some cool stuff, but sometimes the politics get old. I am in a meeting now discussing lessons learned from significant system and program failures.

It has ups and downs. I have a lot of perks so that offsets some of the crap I have to deal with. Do I like it enough to keep working if I hit the lottery? No.

I enjoy the line of work, but want to expand it in a specific direction. I'll explain.

I am Desktop Support / Security Technician for a large bank. Outstanding pay.
Desktop Support -> Fixing computers and printers, don't like as much.
Security Technician -> Got a Masters and Certs in this, love it.

Unfortunately, I see more of the "this printer needs to be fixed" than any security issues, and there are a lot of things I'd like to get done, security-wise, that I can't get done because I am doing my other role.

So basically, I hate my dual-role job, and wish I would do more of the Information System Security side than the "fix a PC / Printer" side. It's not even equally balanced of 50/50. More like 80/20.

I absolutely hate when I have to stop my security work, to get in a car and drive 2 hours to replace a PC. So if I dropped HALF of my job, and expanded my security role, I would be extremely happy.

I guess from my last thread I did I might as well say no. Not right now. There's certain issues I'm dealing with there. I've brought them up to my bosses and they tell me that thats not it at all. I'm just thinking negetively. BS!

Yes, I do. Create a job out of something you love that can pay your bills, food and retirement fund.

It isn't so bad in my line of work. The failures are very publicly known, and even if I wasn't working or even alive at the time of them, I have heard about them.

Personal ambitions aside, I have found it's not what you do, but who you work for. If Mgmt. is flexible, lets you stay focused on your work, and helps you grow and be a productive member of the team, they can plan on you staying for a while.

Your position is part of a common goal, not a list of tasks that you do every day. If there is no sense of a shared vision, results will be low and fustration high, entrophy will set in and you will be looking for another job.
