"Best" SXRD Ever (mass) Produced?

I just posted another thread pertaining to my $2,000 budget for a new HDTV. I got a few responses recommending SXRDs. While I've never been too fond of RPTVs, it prompted me to do a little more research. And it got me curious as to which SXRD was the "best" one ever produced?

I've heard several people on this board say good things about the KDS-60A3000 produced in 2007. But the 70 inch KDS-R70XBR2 from 2006 looks just as good, if not better, in most of the reviews I've seen. Any thoughts?

I only have had experience with 2 SXRD's.. I currently have the KDS-60A3000 and am floored by the 1080p24 picture some BD's give.. It has a much better picture than my parents 50" Panny plasma 1080p (same source, player and movie).

I had the KDS-50XBR1 SXRD which I believe has a better HDTV 1080i picture but the 60A3000 is better on BD.

I thought I read that Sony is quitting the rear projection business. My friend has a 2007 XBR 60 inch and it does not even do 24P frame rate. The picture is OK but nothing to write home about.

Not anymore. Sony quit the rear proj market about two months ago.

yeah they stopped, but that doesn't mean that the 3000's vanished or stopped being good, out of all of the sxrd sets, the last iteration was the best (120hz)

I own the KDS-60A2000 and while it does not support 1080p/24, the picture is beautiful and I have had it for over a year with no problems. Blu-Rays look stellar and I considered Samsung and Mitsubishi TVs when I purchased it. Sony always looked better, hands down. I also love the look of the 3000 series with the Bravia engine (rather than WEGA, as the 2000s have) and the glass around the edges.

"I own the SONY KDS-55A3000. What I'm about to say might come across as heresy, but here it goes... In 'normal' and ambient lighting settings, this television rivals most plasmas I've seen (there, I said it). And in a typical dark setting (all lights turned off), the blacks are excellent! For me, I do not care for wall mounting, so that was never an issue. What is an issue to me is the viewing angle. According to the manual, the ideal viewing angle is 60 degrees perpendicular to the vertical and 130 degrees perpendicular to the horizontal which I believe to be true. This I do not mind since I enjoyed a slightly narrower viewing angle from my SONY KDF-55WF655 LCD RP. What I do find a little annoying is that when deviating from the "sweet spot," the picture does not uniformly fade. What happens is that whatever is eye level is a little bit brighter than what's above and below. You'll notice it more when bobbing your head up and down. it seems that the lower the resolution viewed, the more it's noticeable. Right now, I have Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer playing, and it's barely noticeable outside of the 'sweet spot.' When I have Food Network HD on, It's more apparent. Other than that, it's practically the perfect TV for me. Does anyone else know of the 'phenomenon' I speak of?"

60A3000 is hands down the best model (best of any DLP/Lcos actually). I've had the 60A2000 as well and thoroughly checked out the XBR models. They are also nice but the A3000 with the 120hz engine just brings home cinema to the next level. I've gone through Plasma's and LCD's as well, the 60A3000 is my favorite tv I've had to date. I do like the LCD 120hz sets from Sony (XBR4,5) as well as the Samsungs but price per size is a huge advantage (no need in my situation to pay twice as much for a smaller screen) to the A3000 and I didn't need slim.
