I am willing to bet that production of hd-dvd from universal and paramount has both ended a few weeks ago. Looks like para/dream had no intentions of releasing Bee Movie.

It ended on November 17th, 2006.

Some people just took a while to realise it.

Believe it or not my local blockbuster just expanded their HDDVD section. I was a little pissed when I saw this. They expanded the Blu-Rays as well, but I really dont think there was any need of them to expand the DUDS and well, they just look so ugly.

What do you care?

Why is it so important to you that they stop producing movies? What possible difference does it make?

Some of you people are in need of serious mental help.

I'll +1 that.

The war is over, who cares anymore. It's not like everyone will change their mind if Bee Movie was released on HD DVD.

Time to move on.

The real question is when will we see the first BD from Universal? Personally, I couldn't care less if they continue to support HD DVD. It's their money to continue wasting as they see fit. Just give me a seperate encode, optimized for blu-ray's superiority and I'm happy.

Pretty much feel the same way at this point. The format war is done. Time to move on to a blu future and forget the dark ages.

I care to a certain extent. Right now, HD DVDs are wasting space at places like Best Buy and Circuit City, space that could be put to better use by expanding the blu-ray sections. So, imo, the sooner that HD DVD completely disappears, the better.

This is exactly the reason why we should care whether or not something is released on HD-DVD. Because encode is probably still the biggest expense, anyone releasing in both (Universal) will most likely only do one encode. This means no 50 GB, no high bit rate, etc.

It also means their Blu-ray releases won't sell as well as other companies that optimize for Blu-ray. I'm sure Universal will come around soon. They are probably just holding out trying to negotiate some subsidies.

Good point, well made.

However... Don't panic. They will at the moment be clearing out their current HD-DVD titles in preparation for moving to Blu-ray. Universal will need time to transition to BD manufacture. Paramount have cancelled all HD-DVD titles after 4/3/2008. Warner Bros. I can't fathom still releasing to June... IMO they will just let these slip off the schedule.
