Default No Surround on CD's through PS3 on 605

Hello, I've had my Onkyo 605 for about a week now and have it hooked up to my PS3 through HDMI. I have no problem getting the sound I want out of Blu-Rays and the such but when I put a CD with surround in the PS3 I only get stereo sound out of the front left and right speakers... so surround at all. I've tried going through the available listening modes on the Onkyo and still nothing. Is there a setting on the Onkyo or on the PS3 that I may not have right? Thanks to anyone that can help. (And yes I have tried several searches of the forums here for the answer, so if this has been brought up before I'm sorry.)

Far as I know, if it's a regular CD you have to select Pro-Logic2 on the receiver. It's the only form that will turn 2 channel into 'surround' but depending on the receiver, it may sound kinda hollow compared to 2 channel.

on the 705 i turn on the all channel option. Not sure if the 605 has this. This makes the sound come out of all 7 of my speakers. this is with Mp3 as well, not cd audio so not sure if that would make a difference.

I have the PS3 and DG910 hooked up via HDMI. I did a search too because I only got sound from my front three speakers and sub. It's a commin gripe with the PS3 that should be fixed via a firmware update soon. However, if you do sound via an optical cable, you can get the 5.1 sound from a CD. It just doesn't work for HDMI.

Just do a Google search and you can find more answers.

Mine turns TV and DVDs (stereo) into surround with Pro Logic II, but not CDs through the PS3! Is there something that the PS3 does to make the receiver think it has to be normal stereo?
I will play with it and see if I can force it to go to Pro Logic, but usually I just turn it to 7.1 stereo when i listen to non-multi-channel music (i.e. CDs and MP3s).

+1

i understand that some people like to hear it out of all the speakers though. When I used to work in a Mag BBY people always wanted to. Of course we try to explain that music is recorded in stereo blah blah blah... But hey, whatever sounds good to your ears matters most!

On topic, I know my receiver(see sig) will do music in surround mode from my PS3 over HDMI, so that's weird .
Hope you figure it out!!!!
