I have stopped buying regular dvd's. Except for kids movies and tv shows. The reason I still buy kids movies is that a lot of the times my kids watch them in portable players or in there playroom. I would love them on blu. But, like I said. They want to watch them elsewhere and until blu is cheap enough for extra players or a portable. Its not going to happen. I know hd-dvd had some movies with both hd and standard. But, does anyone think that on kid releases they should include standard dvd version on a blu disc? For example "Enchanted", "Mr.Magoriums", etc. Again, this is for kid movies.

There will be double releases for a while. Personally, I believe BD is more kid proof because of that hard coating. DVD's and CD's get wreaked by kids with "normal" handling.
Only intentional intent to damage BD does it any harm. Finger prints can be washed off and patted dry. If you NEED both then what is the problem? Spend the extra, or find a compromise. |

I think it would be a good idea to package them together but only if they did NOT raise the price to compensate for it.
I mean lots of parents show movies to their kids in their car on long trips, and 99.9999% of in-car movie set-ups are DVD. But it should not be limited to "kid" movies either. Lots of people want to take their movies with them on car trips or plane trips or vacations. In that case either they should bundle DVDs OR they should provide standard on all BDs digital download copies like Family Guy: Blue Harvest did. That would not only help people get their movies to run on more than just their BD player, but also encourage people to buy the BD for the digital copy AND help fight against digital downloads by actually providing them with the BD movie! |

No, what should happen is every DVD player should be thrown in the trash, and replaced by Blu Ray players, including in-car. DVD movies should be taken off the shelves, and everything should be available on Blu Ray. Also, Blu Ray should have no region settings. Sure, some people dont travel and stay in their own little bubble, but i travel and would like my movies to work wherever i go.

as usual you've clearly missed the point that OP was making. he was not talking about finger prints or kid proofing BD's. he's talking about when you buy a kid's bd, like CARS or RATATOUILLE, that there should be a regular DVD as well b/c most of us with kids have a dvd system in our vehicles. our vehicles don't have BD players in them yet, thus the need for another dvd disc. so, it would be nice if they were packaged together. |

![]() You're oh-so-wrong...... just because something is "better" doesn't mean it's the most universaly accepted, or feasible....... Do you have a mainframe based digital system with all of your Blus etc. stored on it, feeding it to all of your OLEDs???? probably not.... but it's "Better" so what are you waiting for??? |

I personally would love to see them provide a download code to either download a digital copy from either the studio site or a partner site. This digital copy can then be played on anything, including burned to a CD.
I think at this time this would be the best solution to help deter people from trying to crack the BDs. I personally would love to have a full res backup copy on a raid array of all of my BDs, like my DVD/CD library, but I would at least settle for this option for the time being. I just really like to take a movie to a friends or something like that sometime and its hard to do with any new release |

I would like for the DVD and Blu-ray to be packaged together for the primary reasons listed above. It will be a long time before blu-ray car players and inexpensive TV with built-it blu-ray will be available.
In the other hand, I doubt the studios would go for this since it would be easy for someone to buy the package and then sell the DVD part on eBay. |

I haven't bought a single blu-ray kids movie because of my kids watching them.
We have a 6 disc DVD player in the wifes car, a portable DVD player and two laptops with DVD. We have one blu-ray player. My kids also watch DVD's in the bonus room, our bedroom and on the main TV. I'm not buying two discs so I will simply buy DVD until every player I own that my kids use is Blu-ray. |
