Here is the link from what I read on 1up.com
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3166829 In war, to the victor go the spoils. That's an eloquent way of saying "the loser gets shafted," which anyone who recently purchased an HD DVD player well knows. Blu-ray has won the next-gen format war, and early HD DVD adopters are left with an instantly obsolete piece of expensive technology. That is, unless you happened to buy that HD DVD player from Circuit City recently. Gizmodo reports that the electronics retailer is beneficently-yet-secretly offering exchanges for HD DVD players purchased from one of their stores, purportedly within the last three months. After receiving a tip from a Circuit City employee about the special return policy, Gizmodo has confirmed the deal through various reader testimonies (with one claiming he used the deal to purchase a PlayStation 3) as well as a leaked memo allegedly posted on an internal Circuit City forum. Among a series of FAQs, the memo states the following: Q; What about customers who may try to return an HD DVD player - even if they have owned it for several months? A: We do not want to upset our valued customers. For this special circumstance, we are happy to offer an exchange for a Blu-ray player (customer plays [sic] any difference in purchase price) - even if it has been several months since the customer made their HD DVD player purchase. If the customer does not want a Blu-ray player, we can issue a gift card refund for their original purchase price. For products purchased in the last 30 days, handle as usual. The memo doesn't specify how far back the deal goes, but the three-month limitation comes from the original tipster. Also unknown is whether the Xbox 360 HD DVD add on applies for the deal, and it's worth noting that other readers reported the exchange is offered in stores only, with online customer care denying the offer. Considering the strange secrecy surrounding this deal, it's probably prudent to call your local Circuit City and confirm the offer before hauling your HD DVD player in for an exchange. |
