Default New FUD???

I was on Amazon.com in their hi-def section and someone posted a lengthy post about DRM. Part of what he said is:

Quote:
"DRM is a system that "determines" the "rights" of the
"masses" to do things like...
-Play a movie in a machine OTHER THAN the first one it's loaded into
-Play a movie MORE THAN ONCE (rental scheme)
-Play a movie ONLY FOR a predetermined number of days/months (moratorium)

Essentially, DRM is a virtually unlimited, and re-configurable system,
that let's the studios change/threaten the long-standing tradition of...
PERMANENT, RESALABLE, FLEXIBLE... movie collections.

Thus far, all home-video formats have allowed the media's owner to...
Loan the disc to a friend or parent...
O, OH...
In the studio's opinion, that is "peer to peer piracy"
"
Is this more BS from the sore loser hd-dead fanboys? The link is:

http://tinyurl.com/2k37g7

If this is BS, someone who is knowledgeable should go over there and challenge William Cortner.

What is funny is that what's listed actually applies to Downloads, not Blu Ray (as the physical support is the protection in itself, you can go and play it on other machines, play it more than once, and with no limit in time)

Probably true, everyone wanting a non-chinese branded cheap DVD player, that wasn't buying it for High Def

That funny as hell...DRM really relates to downloaded information.
DRM protects the rights of the originator of the music/video/picture/etc.
It allows only a certain amount of playtime on a certain device and that is it. You cannot copy it without fully pruchasing it. DRM is pretty much a rental service that is really strict. Good luck taking a downloaded movie to a friends house, unless you bring your PC

It sounds like he is describing the old DivX DVD system.

If you download movies that you want to keep, and then in the future want to transfer them to a bigger/newer hard drive then drm will come into play in the form of a lock that won't allow it.
DRM is only applicable to downloaded entertainment and has nothing to do with blu-ray.

Studios will want to guarantee compatibility with 1.0 and 1.1 players. They will never make a disc that requires to be connected to the internet to play the main feature(s).

I loaned my friend a screwdriver so he could repair his PC. Home Depot just sent me a NASTY email.
