Ok,
50% hate monster cable, 50% love it... Still I ended up with one of their HDMI GameLink cables (pretty "cheap"). Big question that I havent been able to find the answer anywhere: Does this cable have enough bandwidth to support TrueHD / Loseless audio codecs? Or do I have to ante up and get one of their "ultra speed 1000" series... Help is appreciated! |

If your cable is short (say less than 5m), most likely you could get away with any decent cable. If your cable is long, need to be more careful about the quality of the cable.

wow, nice receiver
![]() ![]() (note) the ps3 converts the audio to pcm inside the player, so the receiver will display pcm instead of dolby true-hd on its display. Last edited by guitarist155; 03-12-2008 at 02:49 PM. |

What I've been following is the Monster great / overpriced crap debate over at various sites (Gizmodo, Endgadget, etc). There seems to be inconclusive evidence regarding the price premium of monster's cables vs a regular cable. Since I live in Mexico, the HDMI cable offer is severely limited, I have to get them in the USA.. so internet hunting generally pays off. |

REgarding the bluray source. Im deffo waiting for a better player that is worth the investment (profile 2.0, DTS decoder, etc)... meanwhile, PS3 is a top choice! Only glitch on the PS3... I think i got one of the noisy ones... is not as quiet as i'd expect. Any suggestions on how to make it less noisy? |

I don't think many suppose that Monster cables are of poor quality. Many just argue that most all of marketing/hype/spin that they put on their stuff is mostly hog fodder. And, there are MUCH more cost-effective alternatives out there that will perform at the same standard.
The retail mark up on them must be outragous, because the BB/CC folks push them like crack. That's the part I hate most. I was actually told that my BD30 would not look good if I didn't buy a $100 4 ft. HDMI. If you have already fallen victim to the game or can buy Monster more reasonably than retail, don't worry. They function quite well for the most part. I have couple of Monster HDMIs that I bought used on ebay pretty cheap, and they work great. V800s I think. |
