I have a Powercenter Question?

I have the Monster HTS1600 Powercenter and I was wondering if you are supposed to leave the power on 24hrs a day or are you supposed to turn it off at the end of the day. I couldn't get a straight answer from the salesman a BB.

I think you just leave it on all day. I have one of the cheaper monster power centers (~ $180) and I never turn it off. Plus, Monster's products come with a lifetime warranty. As a matter of fact, I just had one replaced for free several months ago after something (I suppose a surge of kinds) killed it.

So, I dont think you have anything to worry about.

I have the same model. There is no need to turn off the power conditioner daily and is supposed to be left on all the time. However I use the power on/off button when I connect/disconnect equipment and when I do my annual thurough cleaning. I leave the power on for weekly dusting.

i turn mine off even esp the ones in my studio. you are using alot of power from components and the conditioner itself when that is on, also you are putting wear on the components and conditioner, you equipment is far safer from surges and voltage dips when it is off. so if your not using the equipment there is really no reason to keep it on. it is just a waist of electricity

Actually if you turn it off but its still plugged into the wall, the surge can come in and kill your electronics, as the powercenter is off (thus the protection is off). I have a friend to turned off everything but left it on and during a storm his house got a surge which killed every electronics device plugged in at the time, whether they were off or on.

I don't have a monster (but they are great), I have a Panamax, and that thing has been on 24/7 for at least the last 20 months, no issues yet. ...so my guess is they should always be on cause you never know when lightning may strike.

I'm kind of forced to leave it on because mt tv is plugged into it and when I turn it off it resets some of the options, I just don't want the led's to burn out,I don't think led's are covered under the warranty.

not trying to come across as rude but i believe on a power conditioner when you turn off the switch it decouples the input power source and breaks the circuit so there is not a way for the surge to get to it. when you have switched outlets and non switched outlets then the power remains connected and just turns off the power to the switched outlets the power still goes through the conditioner for the non switched outlets, when it comes to lightning however it can ark across a switch even when turned off so the only way to protect it in that case is to have it unplugged.

if you have a power conditioner that turns off the surge protection but does not disconnect the mains, i would suggest getting a new power conditioner

I don't want to bash your purchase, but if you can afford it I would upgrade from that to another conditioner. I sell Monster, Furman, Panamax, and Richard Gray. Richard Gray is the cream of the crop. What it does for the picture quality is amazing. Particulary their add on items like the Substation. I stop selling Monster. I really am not happy with the results. Richard Gray is expensive, but worth it. When I have a customer that wants to spend less money, my next choice is Furman. They make an inexpensive power strip that would make you notice the difference in quality.
