Default Monster bad for PS3?

When I was talking to Sony today troubleshooting my defective PS3 they said that Monster Cables hurts the PS3 and actually causes damage to the device. The lady I was talking to almost made it seem like they were not going to swap out my PS3 if I was still using my Monster Cable but I reassured her I was using a different one (monoprice) and then she agreed to exchange my PS3. Has anyone else heard of this or was someone pulling a prank on her? I don't see how a cable could physically cause damage to a device, especially when it is made with "premium" materials.

I think they are just blowing smoke. I have had my ps3 since december 2006 hooked up with monster cable and I have never had problems.

Interesting. I called last weekend to start the warranty process on my PS3. The agent asked no questions on what type of cables were connected or how I even had it connected. He was more concerned if the warning labels were tampered with, and whether or not the unit was ever dropped or had any liquids spilled on it. My guess is they were just looking for some excuse not to replace it. This sounds like a load of BS.

she didn't sound like she had a clue as to what was going on and kept coming up with every excuse to not swap out my PS3. She constantly had to keep putting me on hold to talk to a "higher up." Quite annoying. Basically everything that she told me to do I have already done 4-5 times now trying to fix my picture and I told her what I had done up front but she still kept talking to somebody else while I was on hold and asked if I could do it while I was talking to her. She would ask if I had checked it on another tv (I checked it on 5 different TVs), she asked if I had checked other HDMI cables (checked 4 different ones), then she made me go through the display and BD settings in which I had done several times since I had purchased the PS3 back in November and just kept thinking that is the way blu-ray is suppose to look. But other members here that own the same TV said that they are not having the same problems and when I go to BB or CC their TVs dont' do the same thing mine does with the extreme grain during movies. Plus my PS3 constantly beeps at me, drives me crazy.

ya, they went through the same spill with me but with more questions, I think it was a newbie working for them, I was on the phone with them for a long time trouble shooting the stupid grain my PS3 is causing and then after that whole process of elimination she goes "O well, we can't troubleshoot the beeping your PS3 is doing, you will have to send it in to be swapped out." I wanted to scream at her and ask her why she just didn't swap it out in the first place. I have the worst luck with new products, seriously. My new Razr phone I got last year, first 3 were defective and even my fourth was messed up (the hinge) but I lived with it and then upgraded to my new Samsung Gleam, first one defective so they sent me a new one...defective again, my BlackJack II with at&t is already defective out of the box and they swapped out the sim card with no results so now I have to go back to them when I get the chance to swap out my phone. My first Samsung HDTV was messed up out of the box, had to exchange it. New Samsung TV, on my third right now, first one had dead pixel, second wouldn't start up everytime, third seems to be working fine so far. My Xbox 360 first one had a rattling noise inside it, second one wouldn't show picture or audio through HDMI, again third seams to be working fine except for really loud vibrations. I only seem to have any luck with refurbished stuff, good grief.
