Default Str-dg810

Hello all, I have a question, I currently have a STR-DE885 reciver and and BD-P1400 player and the audio cuts out via the Optical connection, so i have ran the audio using the Mutlichannel inputs on the stereo, I am looking at getting a STR-DG810 reciver and was wondering if any one is using one of these recievers with a samsung BD-P1400 and getting good audio, I was concerened as the de810 does notr have multichannel inputs. I am a newbie so forgive my ignorance, any advice would be greatly appreciated, I only have a budget around 300 for a new reciver :-(

the 810 is 5.1 pcm capable, and also has analog inputs...but you wouldnt need them as it has HDMI connection.

How much can you spend? the 810 would be an ok starter system, but you could do better for a little more.

for instance...Onkyo TX-SR605 ($390 + FREE SHIPPING)

for some reason I did not see this line.

...well, if you can wait and save up id go with the Onkyo, but if you really want to get one then the 810 is fine.

Are you sure it has analog inputs? I have the 910 and Ive never noticed those.

Also the 910 goes for about $300 on jr.com if you're interested. It does 7.1 PCM and has transcoding to HDMI, handles 1080p/24hz, and has 3hdmi ins.

Luis A15, Will the 910 play the audio from a samsung BD-P1400 player via the Optical with out the sound cutting out? Also I only have The Bose Acoustimas 10 Series II speakers 5 dual Satellites and an Onlyo Active sub woofer (not sure if that matters)

Thanks Guys

THe samsung BD-P1400 has HDMI doesnt it? Why not just use that? It would simply your install (only need 1 cable) and you could get PCM (and whatever HD audio the BD-P can decode)

Does your tv have a DVI input? Or only component?

If your tv only has component, then a component+optical combination will work for sure. If it has DVI, then an HDMI from the samsung to the receiver, and an HDMI-DVI cable to the tv might work.

Okay thanks for the input, I was just concerned that the STR-DG910 audio would cut in and out via the digital optical cable the way it does on my current str-DE885 (Only on BR movies)that is why i had to run multichannel in, but since the 910 doesnt have those inputs, ijust wnated to try and be sure the 910 would handle the output via the Digital optical without issue :-)

Also Unfortunantly my TV does NOT have HDMI inputs :-( bummer hope to upgrade that soon :-)

well, I stand corrected...I took for granted that most receivers nowadays would have Multichannel Analog inputs.

after looking at a rear pic of the 810, it does not have multichannel analog inputs.

as for running HDMI the OP does not have a TV HDMI input, and I do not believe the BD1400 can output video over component and audio over hdmi simultaneously? correct me if im wrong.

Dbailey, does the TV have a DVI input?

I suggested component + optical. If the HDMI connection is used it HAS to be for both (ie you cant use HDMI for video and Optical for audio, the receiver assumes both will come via HDMI)

If your tv does not have HDMI then its still possible to use HDMI for both video and sound from the samsung to your receiver, and an HDMI-DVI cable to connect the receiver to the TV. But that might not work either, as these receivers seem to have a problem with HDMI-DVI cables, not sure why.

Thanks again guys, Unfortunantly my TV has Neither HDMI or DVI, just the a couple 1080i component in's, looks like i need to invest in a newer DLP with HDMI inputs :-) I think I will give the 910 a try, seems to be a good unit for a beginner like myself. :-)

yeah but cant the op run hdmi to his receiver and then components from his receiver to his tv then would he be able to receive the hd audio?

Nope. If he connects HDMI to his receiver then he HAS to use either HDMI or HDMI-DVI to the tv. The receiver will not transcode HDMI to any other cable type.

OP, my original suggestion stands. Just use Component+optical from your samsung unit to the 810 or 910.

Alright The 910 that i found for 300.00 was sold out :-( so I went ahead and got the 810 for 279.00, looks like the only difference is more HDMI switching capability and 7.1 surround on the 910 and 6.1 on the 810 and of course the 770W vs. 660W. Cant wait to get this thing, thanks again for your input and patience with a newbie.
