Lies I tells ya. Dirty rotten fanboy lies!

Sheesh, imagine what this means. It means Sony kept its promise (1 million by years end) and actually is going to beat it. It means they are now producing a ton. And it means the European launch should be an easy go because of both production quantity and that the market should be decently satiated here by March.

My guess: 100K arrived this week in North America by ship. They had to move to using ships for quantity and cost reasons.

Good news for HD DVD

Do you think you can find a link where Sony says it is going to sell 1Million by years end?

The original target was 2 million for 2006, and 6 million for Sony's fiscal year (March 2007).

8 days to go. Sony might as well produce more and sell more in Japan where home field advantage and shorter flights will boost the numbers. They could also start pushing more units in Taiwan and HK.

nextgenwars.com has it at barely surrpassing 500k. That is too low. If your going to do a site with sales and least be up to date. I hate that site anyway's because it's always a console war. Besides most of them don't know what they are talking about.

Yes, as they state their sources, unlike certain other websites [cough]nextgenwars[/cough]

You gotta wonder how there can be such a discrepancy between the two sites.

Either one or the other (or both) is more fabrication that truth.

We have a 2M discrepency for XBox 360 and a 500k vs 1M discrepancy for PS3.

Very strange, n'est-ce pas?

That's an horrible estimate if you ask me. Biased for that matter.

Actually, I have to retract. The actual quote is a little ambiguous:

Sony: PS3 Shipments Arriving, 1 Million Still 2006 U.S. Goal

Quote:
"We are still focused on reaching our goal of 1 million units in the pipeline by Dec. 31 in the U.S."
In the pipeline is not sold to consumers. It doesn't even mean shipped. They could be filling a containers ready for a boat shipment, and that would be "in the pipeline". But, at this point, assuming 620K for the America's means about 550K sold in the USA, it would seem difficult for them to get to a 1 million figure.

But, of course, we don't know the real numbers. And unless Sony admits they missed, a certain element will reject whatever they say as lies.

Yes. A few things come to mind:

- Vgcharts looks to be showing consumer sales. Their data seems to come from retailers (and probably the NPD data for the US). The nextgenwars.com numbers for the XBox 360 look like SHIPMENTS not consumer sales. Go to any store and see the massive pile of unsold Xbox 360.

- It seems that usually estimates assume that Europe equals the USA for sales. While vgcharts seems to indicate it is something like 50%.

We already know there now are PS/3s selling without movies in them. So, the nextgenwars number for worldwide sales of the PS/3 makes no sense.

And note that the Wii is doing even better according to vgcharts. It would seem odd for people to claim they are PS/3 biased if they are clearly showing the Wii currently kicking the PS/3's ass, and that showing a significant increase in US and European sales for the Xbox 360 this month (700K/400K respecitively this month).

No doubt a certain element will cherry pick what they want to believe from this.

I agree with both of these points.

In any case, one could hardly call the PS3 launch a failure for Sony or for Bluray disc.

Anyone calling the PS3 launch a "failure" is simply spouting fanboy rhetoric. "off to a slow start" would be far more accurate, but now that the shipments are up to speed and some highly anticipated games are coming in March, expect the PS3 to begin catching the Wii in the next 6 months...

Well looking at the latest numbers of units sold per day, at the current production rate it would seem that by years end, sales in the US would be approximately around 850k, and reach 1million sales just 5 days later.

Just in time for the 3 Wise Men Holiday
(still considered Christmas season on some parts of the world ).

2M worldwide would be reached about January 17, about a week after CES ends.

They could reach these goals a little earlier if they kept increasing the production rate, and sales keep up.

(5 days is 1% error and and 17 days is a 5% error off the mark if you measure in yearly terms.)

Here we go, read this thread at vgcharts.com. It is about how each site gets their numbers, basically Nextgenwars.com pulls numbers out of their arse using some formula to make a straight line graph. Otoh, vgcharts.com name all of their sources and base their numbers on sales to consumers.

so supposedly theve sold over 220,000 in two weeks? reason I ask is because I got my ps3 around two weeks ago and it still had a movie in it... I wouldnt trust any one these numbers. Also as far as who ever keeps saying there are stock piles of the 360 just sitting in the stores, you may need to stop spreading rumors that you dont know the truth of, I know one walmart in my area sells about 10 consoles a day... now im not trying to defend the 360, but people on the forums these days are just plain retarted, or maybe just scared "fanboys"
