Default Dick Tracy on Blu-Ray?

I used to have the laserdisc of this movie and think it has the potential to look stunning in Blu. Anyone else agree? How does the current DVD version look/sound? The soundtrack was remastered in DTS but that's about all I know.

I think the DVD was non-anamorphic, not the greatest picture quality.

This would look great on BD with all of the vivid colors.

Dick Tracy would be a really good looking movie on Blu-ray if the mastering job is handled correctly.

Vittorio Storaro is one of the greatest cinematographers of the past 30 or so years. He filmed movies like Dick Tracy and Apocalypse Now. He also did the DP work for the TV mini-series version of Dune a few years ago. The only thing I dislike about his way of doing things is the 2:1 aspect ratio he tends to apply on many DVD releases of movies he has filmed. The Last Emporer and Apocalypse Now have both received those 2:1 treatments.

It would also be noteworthy to have Dick Tracy released on Blu-ray for its audio. A LPCM 5.1 track would come much closer to representing the audio tracks of the film's 70mm release prints, 70mm 6-track Dolby magnetic and 70mm Cinema Digital Sound.

The CDS format packed a lot more data onto its audio track than the severe compression schemes used by Dolby Digital and others. Unfortunately, the quality of CCD imaging chips was nowhere near as good as it is today. Film printing technology wasn't quite as advanced either. That led to playback problems, mainly with the 35mm system. I watched 3 movies presented in CDS at theaters in New York during 1990 and 1991. Didn't witness any audio drop outs myself. But they did occur.

Okay, I wasn't sure since it doesn't say so on the case.

Yes, I can verify that it is an anamorphic DVD. It would be a pleasant surprise to see Disney release Dick Tracy.

Unfortunately, I don't know if it's any old "Silver Screen Partners I-VII" legal tanglings--or an embarrassed inferiority complex about Disney's whole Roger-Rabbit era--that seems to be the reason why modern Disney forgets any of its early-90's movies ever existed...
(Even the ones that WE tried to forget ever existed, like all those French-remake Martin Short comedies.)

And until we figure out what's going on, all you Tracy-on-Blu fans can just get in line with us Rocketeer-on-Blu fans.

Oh yeah---The Rocketeer is another one that is crying out for Blu-Ray, or at the very least, a special edition standard DVD.

Tracy does have a lot of Extra Color and would be cool on Blu, I agree.

What about a Re-master in Hi-Def of "Condorman"

I was lucky to buy the only DVD verson I have seen since 1999. but I would get it on Blu-Ray if it shows up. The DVD has no Extra's.

I was just thinking of what the color would lood like, it could almost hurt your eyes in HD.

I'd also love to have a remastered versions of "Never Cry Wolf," "White Fang" and "Something Wicked This Way Comes."

Of course, Roger Rabbit would be fantastic in HD. Especially if they do a PIP with the original footage before the animation was applied.

Dick Tracy and The Rocketeer would be must haves for my collection if they were ever announced for Blu-ray! I remember watching these movies as a kid and they were so much fun... hmmmm, maybe I'll go out and by the DVD versions this evening and see what they look like upconverted to HD... now I've got an itch!
