or wait until this summer, some great bd players are coming out from Sony that will already have DTS HD MA along with all the other features of the ps3 except for gaming

PS3 hands down... As you prob seen from today it will also be the first to get the BD-Live feature

Go and get a PS3. If its for your father, spend the extra twenty bucks and get the standard remote for it so he won't get confused by the controller.

Does you father have any requirements of a player or aversions to gaming machines?

If he uses a universal remote, it may be better to get a stand-alone player. Although, there is an IR work around for the ps3.

I'm noticing a trend here....A PS3 for sure! Best home entertainment investment I've ever made.

I'll buy him the remote too, last time he tried watching movies and
the analogs on the PS3 controller kept moving he went berserk on himself

He mention he got PS3 already and the BD player is for his father,. I would recommand Panasonic BD-30 or wait for the new BD-50 coming soon.
