Cool Sold out Amazon titles...

Did anyone notice the catch up blu-ray was doing on DVDwars until around christmas? I went in to order some titles and almost all of them were sold out with a "usually ships in 7-14 days" (and still are). Could this be the 1 million sold PS3 effect?

Same here. I went to place an order with Amazon last night and it said "will ship Jan 7- 14th". Looks like 2 of the 3 I was getting were sold out. Good news overall, but bad news for me.

Yes, something is absolutely happening on the Blu-ray sales front. Black Hawk Down came back in stock yesterday morning and I (and apparently a bunch of others) managed to order a copy, it rose to the sales rank of around 300 and then went out of stock again. Of the top 5 titles on Blu-ray at DVDwars only Perl Harbor is in stock and on sales rank 671. This must be some kind of indication that the tides are turning, could the PS3 have something to do with it? It did with me, I bought one 2 weeks ago and already have 10 Blu-rays movies but only 2 games.

PS. I have been following the Blu-ray vs HD DVD battle since before it began and decided to go with Blu because of 1. Studio & HW support, 2. Capacity, 3. Hard coating (given the fact that V/A is equal this should settle it for anyone).

I am a prime example of what the PS3 has done to Blu-ray. I never planned on getting a HD system. I barley knew what Blu-ray was. Well since I got my PS3(Dec 25th, have a great sister!), I have bought 7 Blu-ray movies (I also bought an HDTV). I don't plan on getting movies on any other format; so whoever says that the PS3 will not make an impact on Blu-ray,just doesn't know what they are talking about.

With the PS3 you have gamers (like me) who wasn't thinking of getting a HD movie player, but since i now happen to have one, I will use it.

Also when Batman Begins comes out on Blu-ray, sales will go through the roof, that was the first movie I was looking for!

DVD Empire has a HD Wars corner now, HD DVD har outsold BD 60-40% during the year but BD is outselling HD DVD in December and January by 55-45%. This should also be an indication that things are looking Blu right now!

Look in the upper right corner of the link:

Its pretty smart on their part. They see how fanatical a lot of forum people are about comparisons and obviously amazon is mentioned every other word on the hd-dvd forum, so why not do it themselves to let people throw it all over the forums and get some publicity and maybe even some crazy hd-dvd guys to buy 50 titles at one time just to turn the tide. Never know!

Default Yay, Blu-Ray!

We will sit back and watch the tide turn in favor of Blu-Ray with 1) More PS3 Sales, 2) Cheaper BD Burners (presently $499 and falling), and 3) Stronger 1st Tier Product Support. As soon as the strength in PRODUCT is shown, Blu-Ray will clearly be the victor of this HD Disc Battle!

Just wait until Casino Royale becomes available. I predict this will be the best selling disc on either format.

Please oh please Sony do not screw this one up.

I just hope Paramount get it together on the audio front before releasing The Godfather Trilogy.

Last time I checked (last night) Blu-ray had the number 1 and 2 spots for the Prestige and Crank (respectively).
