Default Ghostbusters on HD TV.

Maybe someone here know about the transfer of Ghostbusters that is floating around on the HD stations right now. If this is how it's going to look on Blu-Ray, I'll be very disappointed. The amount of film grain is shocking. I know the movies is nearly 25 years old, but other movies that are even older have come out wonderfully. It was shot 70mm, so there should be tons of source material for them to use. They used to run 70mm prints on monstrous screens in the day.

If anyone knows more about this movie and transfer, always happy to learn.

BD's never look like the HDTV transfer...you have to realize how watered down the feed is compared to BD..

Ghostbusters was not shot 70mm. It's possible FX elements were, as that was pretty standard procedure to compensate for generational loss on the optical printer, but not the main film

One of the insiders also commented that there was a LOT of work to be done for Ghostbusters before its release. I would (naturally) expect a vast improvement over the HD broadcast, but I don't expect Ghostbusters will ever be a Tier 0 title.

Also, (sorry if this has been said already) remember that what you see is not only the transfer alone but the transfer sent through your cable or satellite company which can sometimes result in ever so slight loss of clarity. On top of that, a lot of movies that are originally Anamorphic wide screen are shown on HDTV channels as 16x9, which can sometimes cause the transfer to not be as sarp as the original. TNTHD does this to the Matrix, Lord of the Rings, and Spiderman 2.

I hope that helps.
