Default any advantage to using same company tv and blu-ray player?

Do same company products "talk" to each other better?
As in Sharp tv and Sharp blu-ray player?
Or does it not make much of a difference using different company products?

Thanks for all the knowledge I've acquired here!

i don't think so.

The only thing that really matters is having the same center and two front speakers be the same brand.

there are companies that have control systems for when you are using their components together, it sends signals over hdmi so that one remote controls the setup. i do not know who does this or much about it so maybe another member can chime in

ok i just found this, this is sony's version of it called theater sync. a bunch of other companies do this as well. Panasonic = Viera Link. pioneer =KURO LINK

"BRAVIAŽ Theatre Sync™ technology

SonyŽ created BRAVIAŽ Theatre Sync™ to go beyond basic digital audio and video transmission. Based on the HDMI-CEC function, BRAVIAŽ Theatre Sync™ will be included on select BRAVIAŽ Theatre home A/V systems and components. This useful function reduces the hassle and time consuming job of powering up, routing signals, etc. to the simple push of one button.8 Want to play your DVD on your SonyŽ A/V system— Easy, just push PLAY on the BRAVIAŽ HDTV remote and everything is taken care of for you. Even when the system is off! Want to change from TV sound to digital surround sound through your Sony BRAVIAŽ Theatre A/V system— Just one push of the Theater Sound button on the remote and voila, surround sound through your system. Want to power down everything once you've finished enjoying it— Push one button and the TV and A/V system powers down. BRAVIAŽ Theatre Sync™ helps make things a whole lot easier to operate."

Yeah..... I programmed my universal remote to one sony dvd player, and it controls 3 different model ones I have throughout the house, and when I had two Sony Televisions, it controlled both even though they were made 3 years apart, etc......

But the remote thing doesn't matter if you have a programmable-learning remote, but it was nice to not have to re-program/learn when I went from one t.v. to the next, but it's a minor convenience.

One word, "IEEE". They are the standards committee who make sure certain products MUST adhere to a certain spec when using certain cables and stuff. The way around this is to make your own connector, but even that gets challenged if it doesn't have hope of being a new connection standard to something universal like tv. Someone had to come up with HDMI. IEEE helps make sure everyone uses it same way.

With that said, I am upset that IEEE never uttered a peep during this whole format war. Then again, they might have dropped the hammer and forced HD DVD upon us.

My Pioneer gear have this feature but I never paid attention to it. I use my Harmony remote to control everything.

To the OP, I don't think it matters as far as compatibility between components.

No real difference, other than the occasional compatibility with remote control units. It's really a two word answer and it would never matter about compatibility! "Harmony Remote"

I never really looked into it much, but on the LG models they have "Simplink" You can connect a LG TV to LG DVD/Blu-Ray player for one remote control.
