Hi all,
I am using a RM 6880 satelite 5.1 speaker system paired with onkyo 805.I have connected the sub using the polk way(using the speaker level inputs). Also I did the auto calibration using the receiver microphone and it detected all my settings except for the LPF/LFE frequency. You can find this in the speaker menu => Speaker settings Does anybody know what should be this frequency.I guess I have options from 80 HZ(THX), 90 HZ, 100 HZ, 120 HZ.I am using 100 HZ right now and its sounds ok.Any body knows how to tweak this system better? What should be the volume of the sub(can I turn it all the way up?) right now I have 3/4th of the volume. Any body knows how to tweak this system better?any suggestions are welcome Sorry if this is a dumb question and please help as I am a newbie. Thanks, Jingo. |

Hi Pet,
I am a newbie ..So i will just tell you know what I know.. LFE is low frequency effects and if you are playing a 5.1 DVD usually the LFE is in the .1 channel which is usually directed to the subwoofer. We have to specify the cutoff/cross over frequency for the sub .Thats what I was asking for.. Please correct me if I am wrong. Jingo |

Look at the Subwoofer thread: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=43669 From my novice point of view, basically the crossover frequency should be set in function of your speakers response frequency (about 10 Hz above the speaker lowest frequency...). If there is a crossover setting for each speaker on your receiver, you can set it up for each of them. If not you're gonna have to settle for your weakest speaker. The crossover frequency is the cutoff frequency that the receiver will send the sound below this frequency to the sub. 80 Hz is a good starting point, frequencies higher than a certain level become more directional and this is not normally desired for a sub. For the frequency of the sub you can put it to the max if the receiver is properly configured. Volume depends on positioning... Keep in mind that this is basics settings (starting point). To adjust it properly you should get a SPL meter or ask a pro to do it for you. Update: I just found the specs for your speakers... F/L/C/Rears: 130Hz-20kHz ±3dB and the sub is 38 Hz / 110 Hz ±3dB. You should probably set the crossover frequency to 120 Hz (you should set it to 130 Hz based on your speakers but your amp doesn't allow it). But it looks like you're going to have a hole since your sub covers from 38-110Hz and your speakers from 130Hz-20kHz. Also, you should set all your speakers to small. Hope this helps. Thanks Johk!.I will try rewiring with RCA let you know how it comes up..
So i guess I will be using the following settings Speakers = SMALL Subwoofer = YES do you want to run the auto cali or do it manually? If i do it manually the frequency for all the speakers (L,R,Surr) should be 80HZ(which is SMALL) and the LFE is 120HZ or is it ok to run the auto Cali? Thanks again Jingo. |

Run the calibration a couple of times and see the results you get. Try both settings and see what works out best for you but don't set the crossover setting to low if your speakers can't handle it otherwise it might damage your speakers.
By the way did you just get the speakers? A suggestion if you can return them without loosing any money and if you can spare a few bucks more, I would try to get a better set that might help you get a fuller sound... With such a nice receiver as the Onkyo 805, you will probably want a new set of speaker really fast... Just my 2 cents ![]() |
