Hey guy.
A few weeks ago I watched ''There will be Blood.'' As it stands now I can confidently say that it was probably some of the best acting I have ever seen. I really enjoyed the story and the slow, but interesting, build of the movie. Unfortunatly I can not comment on the overall movie itself because I don't think I fully understand it. Im usually not to bad with figuring out the underlying themes and meanings of movie (I understood most of ''No Country for Old Men'' after the first time watching it) but this one really has me at a loss. Which is sad since I thought the acting was beautiful. I did try searching these forums (and google) for any explinations of the movie but I didn't come across anything. So if anyone wishes to post their interpretations or explinations of the movie please do so. I would be very thankful. DD |

Here is my 2 cents, which isn't a lot of money. I try not to over think these movies as there is always a road or a way of thinking that can put meaning on a movie that wasn't intended by the filmmaker. There is nothing wrong with over thinking the movie and finding new and interesting meanings, but I feel the movie (There Will Be Blood) was fairly straightforward. First of all PT Anderson (adapter of the screenplay and director), chose to adapt previously written material about OIL. This has meaning in todays world even though the movie takes place in early 1900's. This was interesting because there is a whole lot of greed going on today with the oil industry. The movie is all about greed and what this particular man who in a sense embodies the oil men of today will do to make a buck. Daniel Day Lewis says it very clearly in the movie that he has a certain drive inside him that will make him do ANYTHING to get ahead of the next guy. The movie slowly shows us all the ANYTHING's that he will do to make more money, which ultimately means very little to him as an already rich person. The movie boils down to the power of greed, and at the end when you think enough is enough he is old and clearly well set financially, he tells his son to go **** himself because he wants to start his own oil company in competition with dad and kills the preacher who is asking for a handout. That is one greedy bastard, who reminds me of the oil companies of today!
Sorry for the length, I really enjoyed this movie. |
