Default Funny, I just now noticed this...

Do you think there is a lawsuit in this?

on cyberlinks website... this is posted for Pdvd ultra

Quote:
PowerDVD Ultra Upgrade
Play all Blu-ray, HD DVDs and DVDs flawlessly. Starting from only $59.
I think we all know this isn't the case... haha

for the simple fact that they advertise the software to "Play all Blu-ray, HD DVDs and DVDs flawlessly"
when it does not play ALL movies...
Granted it does for some people, but not everyone, even people with the same setup as someone that it does play all movies for, can have playback problems.

I for one am having a nightmare with cyberlink, who decided today to delete the last two correspondence in my support history on their site...

Their software does not play 4 of my movies at all, and I know anyone that has 3:10 to Yuma, it doesn't play those movies "Flawlessly"

False claims and promises have gotten many companies in the past in trouble... I for one feel a little shat on about the fact that I bought their crummy software in the hopes it would play my movies, and I have yet to watch 4 of them because they didn't meet their promise.

Their support tickets have yet to be any help except to waste my time.

i am sure they have a catch 22 in the fine print that says some discs need firmware updates or yadda yadda

no they don't... its just as plain as that...

Go to www.cyberlink.com
Click store...
Look on the right hand side under hot links...
it says play all flawlessly...
no catch...
Then Click the link.... No where does it say a damn thing about any updates, or problems...
From there it keeps going to your cart, where you would buy, and not once in that whole process are you warned about the possibility of the software not meeting its intial promise to "Play all Blu-ray, HD DVDs and DVDs flawlessly."

Most likely, Cyberlink must have tested and found out that "all disks" are working. "all disks" could be a 20% random sample of all published disks. If this is the case, statistically they can apply their results to all published disks with some confidence. If they are making a false claim without proper testing, they have a case to answer. The problem with PC is that it is a very complex device. Although it has worked in a certain PC configuration, it may not work in other configurations.

yeah its just lame, i hate companies that don't offer good customer service... I wish there were more companies out there like LG, Mitsubishi, Zappos, etc, that know how to treat a customer when it comes to complaints, problems, and troubleshooting.

Those companies are excellent at helping you out until you feel at ease.

seriously cyberlink been screwing a lot lately. But I don't see the potential of a lawsuit. unless a customer complains and sue for how much his/her support + money spent and not to forget the bad customer service sucks and don't matter.

definitely their behavior is similar to Microsoft.

actually i've had really good luck with microsoft support, i wouldn't call it 5 star service, but its better than people give it credit for.
I would put ms service well above that of pdvd

The catch is that they can advertise it as "plays all movies flawlessly" at the time of the software's release. It's the same with all electronics. Tomorrow there might be something new out that is not supported at the time, because it is too new... that is just the downside of being an early adopter. They might bring out some patches or bug fixes and updates to assure that certain problems are taken care of. But as long as all the movies, that have been released at the time of the software's release, play there is nothing that can be *****ed about.
Heck, some players don't even have BD Live, yet.

You also have to take into account that some people's computers might not have the proper hardware to play back HD content. That is not Cyberlink's fault as they surely give you a hint to what minimum requirements are.

What are some movies that supposedly do not work with their software anyways?
I have a really high end video editing PC at the office which has a BD drive and I can try some titles (if I do have them)

well that's just it, its not that the computer can't handle the movies, WinDVD 9 plays them fine...
the problem is that their software has a lot of bugs that aren't well accepted with every computer... so basically somewhere in the mix of it all some computers are seeing pdvd as a problem when it comes to certain movies. Pretty much I've noticed the movies that won't play in pdvd for me are the ones with loading screens, like ratatouille, spider-man 3, terminator 3, cars

but like I said, its not the computer its the software, because windvd 9 plus plays them all perfectly everytime

Hey Mr mcleod can you recommend something that does play, I think I have the same problem as you. I currently have two movies 'Cars' and 'Life of Brian' both have loading screens both play like a one legged man trying to navigate his way through a vat of custard (on PowerDVD that is and Total Media Theatre).

I want to be sure it's definitely the cyberlink software before I go buying a WinDVD9 and find out it's my hardware.

well i was able to play these movies with pdvd
Alvin and the Chipmunks
I Am Legend
The Invasion
Shoot 'Em Up
Planet Earth: The Complete Series
The Simpsons Movie
Casino Royale
300
August Rush
Ghost Rider: Extended Cut
Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

I had to use WinDVD to play
Ratatouille
Cars
Spiderman 3
Terminator 3

When I would play these movies on Pdvd, It would play everything up to the point when the top menu would load, and it would just stop accessing the drive, and sit there, until PDVD locked up and I had to task manager it closed

Sweet ! thanks. There's a couple on there I'd been thinking about buying anyway so I think they would make good test candidates.

Thanks again
