Question about converting vbulletin - Blu-ray Forum

heres the deal, some guy was running a forum using vbulletin and he scrapped it and handed it over to me, right now I do not have the money to buy vbulletin and was wondering how I could convert the forum into something that is free, I've tried mybb but it requires I convert it from his database in which no longer exists, all I have is his back up. I already have my domain and database ready just a matter of converting I guess. Does anyone know what I should do? Thanks for any help
