Default Paypal Surcharge Rule

Has anyone considered implementing this in the trading forum like highdefdigest has begun doing?

It officially states in Paypal's rules that no surcharge of any kind may be used, so why not implement it in our trading forum?

I'm personally tired looking at threads that consistently say, "If paying by Paypal please as 3.143254%.

Paypal Rules from website:
5. No Surcharges. Under Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express regulations and the laws of several states, including California, merchants may not charge a fee to the buyer for accepting credit card payments (often called a "surcharge"). You agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as payment. This restriction does not prevent you from imposing a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services, as long as the handling fee does not operate as a surcharge (in other words, the handling fee for transactions paid through PayPal may not be higher than the handling fee for transactions paid through other payment methods). Nor does this restriction apply to Pound-denominated transactions by sellers residing in the United Kingdom listing items for sale on a UK-based website.

I buy and sell in ebay, and I would NEVER consider doing business with a seller that wants to impose a surcharge. Having to pay fees is part of the cost a doing business. Obviously, I would never even think of having a surcharge in my auctions. I have sold and purchased comic books worth hundreds of dollars and my relationship with the other collectors is much more important than some extra dollars. A great reputation will reap benefits that could never be achieved by passing your costs to someone else.

I really hate when they list their prices and then say "now add $2.50 for each item for shipping and a 3.149824934982347894% to cover paypal fees" Drives me up a wall. Put your prices out there as with shipping and any whatever the hell fees else included.

Exactly, which is exactly why I think this rule should be implemented. And if the mods are trying to get away from things that are unethical such as the scanning of coupons....this is clearly a violation of Paypal's rules, plain and simple.

I understand your point, and maybe it will be enforced. However, I dislike the idea of Mods overseeing every single thing (it would reminds me of a police state). Every person has to make a choice: do I trade or buy from a person that wants to impose a surcharge? If the majority decision is NO, then you will see the surcharge disappear on its own.

Very true, and I think the "majority" of the people make the right choice to stay away.

This is the new way to go!!!. Plus if you're worried about the paypal charges just ask a dollar more on the total price. Nobody will know.

This is where Revolution Money Exchange comes in. I'm gonna start using it instead of PayPal.

This is a business practice, I am not sure where a rule would be effective as
just hitting the back button. If enough people do that, their prices will come down as the items wont sell.
Now I do agree that is a trader is gonna charge the 3% for using Paypal, they should also offer and alternative payment method such as RME or the old paper money order. This way you are not forcing someone to pay that fee, but I think just to prevent this situation, just add a dollar to the asking price.
I think I have an idea what thread the OP is talking about
