It's odd, because everytime someone attacks another dual-format member here, their response is always the same.....
"yeah, but I'm enjoying my Bourne Series and Transformers" I think this is funny because I got my HD DVD player the day after I got my Blu-player, and I never purchased any of the Bourne Movies or Transformers (nor do I want them) ..... there are many other good titles (Lebowski anyone??) that were the reason for me to go neutral..... it had nothing to do with these other titles..... There is no point of this post.... that's why it's in "OFF-TOPIC" so no need to attack me for owning an HD DVD player, because you're not going to make me regret my purchase ![]() |

Since we are talking posts with no point, i may join in.
![]() I got HD DVD in the summer of 2007 and Blu-ray in november after i figured out how to have a region free player (htpc). I bought Transformers a few weeks ago in a sale for 10 pounds and i don't own any of the Bourne movies. Plenty of other great stuff besides exploding robots. ![]() ![]() ![]() But i have to say, i have never been personally "attacked" here for being purple, even throughout the hot days of the format war. |

I have the HD addon for my 360. Strangely enough, the best time to be an HD-DVD owner was the week or two after the format was killed off. I picked up near $300 worth of HD movies for about $80. I think including that I had only about $200 invested in movies. The only reason I really got it was to save another 360 from RRODing on me because we watch a lot of movies and it killed my first 360.

I bought an HD DVD player because (a) I was angry at Sony for delaying the PS3 here, and (b) the movie lineup by Universal appealed to me more than the Sony/Fox stuff.
So now I can enjoy my BD player without even worrying about when Universal will release The Thing or 12 Monkeys on BD - because I have already seen those movies! ![]() |

I love my HD DVD players and my PS3.
I jumped on HD DVD (back in June I got an Xbox Add On) because of the Matrix movies. If figured if Matrix was on that format -- that was the format for me. I never really got involved in the format war, and while I see the advantages of BR in terms of storage capacity -- I really still feel the formats are approximately equal. I love having access to HD exclusives (Transformers, Bourne, etc.) and also some smaller titles that may never make it to BR (David Lynch's over-the-top Dune, Grand Prix, some of the smaller Focus Film features). I also didn't want to wait to see films like Serenity, The Thing (probably my favorite hi-def release yet) and Children of Men. I am perfectly happy being dual format. I fail to see reasoning behind the BR guys continued knocking of and hatred toward HD DVD. To me the players are so cheap ($55 for a refurbed A2 on TigerDirect) and movies so cheap (you can find a ton for less than $15 if you just look), it almost makes no sense not to be purple. Anyway -- I see the formats as just that, formats. It's the movies I care about. |

By Q3-Q4 I expect to take my HD-A1 to the attic and replace it with a region-A BD player. |

I am looking to replace the A2 down in the man cave with a Samsung Universal player if they ever get the firmware sorted out. If not, I will wait and see if Oppo makes a universal player. |

Well I buyed PS3 over Year ago. I have buyed over 70 BDs. Now I buyed X0 (about Three seeks ago). Well I was looking certain titles as DVD. I noticed those titles were cheaper in HD-DVD thhan DVD. Well I spend 49.95 € at HD-DVD addon to my X0. Now I have buyed some other titles in HD-DVD too.
I may buy those in BD later. When those titles are released in BD. |

I bought an A3 about a week ago, because of taking advantage of the HD-DVD firesale, and to get movies that I don't have to wait for on BD. I agree that they don't do the same thing, and I can save the wear on the BD player for playing SD-DVD's. It's nice having a choice.

Since this is off-topic... I consider myself neutral, but have my reasons for liking blu-ray just a bit more... HD-DVD I believe was an awesome format... one thing i REALLY! hated was the use of inferior audio-codecs. Why didn't HD-DVD utilize more of the True HD, DTS-MA and LPCM sound formats?! Let's face it, early adopters of any new technology, whether it be HD-movies or anything else want these new technolgies to flex their muscles, because we're the only ones who seek/understand their significances more than the average consumer... In my book, blu-ray's use of LPCM, DTS-MA audio tracks made it the superior format, which of course is due to the support of the studios who use these codecs almost exclusively... (sony, disney, fox)... but despite my personal disapproval of the wasted potential of HD-DVD, I love my toshiba a35, because it's the only way i've seen "DTS HD Master" light-up on my Onkyo receiver, even though it happens only with VERY few titles, just my 2-cents

If SD DVD upscaling is your principal consideration then, yes, you surely can. It's "only" a question of money, though I can understand if the improvement in SD DVD PQ from the XA2 isn't worth the cost to you, as everyone's budgets, systems and priorities are different.
