Default US BLURAY guy just browsing the UK Blu scene

I was browsing the UK Amazon site... gosh wat a rip, so many good movies out, why the hell do we US users have to wait. The Island, Sweeny Todd. Simple stuff. We have to wait and pay double for. Any suggestions for finding out if I make a purchase, if the movie will play in my US PS3?

http://bluray.liesinc.net/ is your best bet for checking if a title is region free.

Zyclone's link will help you out. Most of those that are released in the UK and not here are because they were released by different Studios than the US. The Island is a Dreamworks film here, but it's WB there...Same with Sweeney Todd. Now that Universal and Paramount can release in BD we should be getting more movies by them, but the question is when. Patience my friend...although I shouldn't talk because I'm freaking on There Will Be Blood!

Its worth noting that Sweeney Todd is NOT yet available in the UK. You can preorder it though.

Lots of good titles at Amazon.co.uk.... and the prices are actually cheaper for US customers..... once you go to check out it drops the price a few pounds because you are not paying their imperialistic renaissance tax.... They also have the infamous We Were Soldiers OOP title for about $35.00, and its region free.

It's worse here.
Walk into HMV and most titles are €40, that's over $60!!!
For example, I'd be shocked if AvP Requiem isn't €40 on release here. I just bought the double pack from Amazon (plus $6 shipping admittedly) for $27.95.
That's €18 for both movies, as opposed to €40 (about $62) for one!!!

(ok the exchange rate skews it, but still.....)

either preordering early (got enchanted for £14.99 from play.com because I preordered early), looking at a site like find-dvd.co.uk and using quidco (money back site - eg 9% back on purchases from hmv.co.uk). Would never buy a blu in the stores, so overpriced.
