Default Just inherited a DirecTV HD receiver, question...

My neighbor gave me his old Samsung HD DirecTV receiver, and I have a question. It appears to be an older model, so I cannot use an HDMI cable for the video, it uses DVI, and I don't have a set of component cables laying around either. Can standard RF cable output high definition? When I used to work at Best Buy, they would hook up the TV's via RF and it would output high definition, but it might be a different situation in the house. Any input is appreciated.

When I worked at CC they also did that to get their HD channels but when I tried that at my house because I didn't want to buy a HDMI cable if I didn't need to but when I hooked it up it didn't work for me...if was non HD...so I think the answer to your question is no it won't pass HD...but you can try it yourself just to make sure!!!

Keep in mind that the older D* receivers can only get about 5 of their 90 HD channels (or whatever the number is). All of the new channels are MPEG-4 and the old receivers are MPEG-2 only.

Haha, I've already figured that out. The box is pretty much useless.

But at least I can use it for my computer to hook up to the TV.
