Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence Blu-ray

I dont know if this has been posted but Ghost in the Shell 2 Innocence movie will now include an English voice track from the same studio that made Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex and it will be coming out to dvd and Blu-Ray in America from Bandai. Thanks for the post. You might want to fix the title of your post, never heard of Ghost in the Sheel.

That's good news. It's been out in Japan for a while and was one of the first blu demo disks I ever saw- PQ blew me away and I knew I had to have it someday. For some crazy marketing reason, it is only sold as dual set dvd/blu-ray for about $80. Can't see paying that much - the dvd is absolutely useless.

it wasnt a marketing reason thats just how the company wanted it just like Wings of Honneamise, Jin-Roh, Patlabor, and so on

Actually, Innocence did NOT come with a DVD. It is a blu-ray by itself, (but does cost about $75-80). They charge more for all anime in Japan due to the smaller market.

No, they charge more because of many factors including

When home video prices were set, the yen was 200:$1US+.7800 yen is the equivalent piece of annual income as $39.95 is to us.

Japan is primarily a rental market rather than a buyers market. 24 on DVD in Japan is over $200 a season and broken into 12 discs for example because it's primarily for rental

None of the discs that have a DVD with them are affected in any way price wise, it's simply them trying to encourage people to buy Blu now cause they get both (the same stuff behind the HD DVD combo disc). People who want Blu want Blu, and people who are buying DVD don't. So they stopped doing it

Actually, it is also due to anime's smaller sales, Wicky. Regular movies are not charged nearly the same amount as anime discs are, especially Blu ray. The companies are smaller and sell less copies than big movies, so they charge more to make up the difference.

The difference in price is $10

Typical studio Blu-ray in Japan-+/- 5000yen. ($50). This is the same discs that are $24.95-$29.99 here

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=SDB-Y22043

Dirty Haryy collection- $129.99 US, $225 Japan

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=SD-Y18467

Blade Runner 5-disc (DVD version, Blu-ray will just be the Final cut and documentary DVD) US-$39.99 Japan- $135 (if you wanted the suitcase, that was another hundred)

Here's prison break, the same exact thign we got here for $99.99

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=FXXA-33980

$225

So as you can see, it is not just the small print runs of anime that's doing it

The same titles Bandai is selling for 7800yen were 7800yen on DVD as well

Here's Gundam IGLOO, 5800 yen, just like the dvd

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=BCXA-27

And here's a Japanese theatrical feature for 3800

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=ESXW-1

So I think we've established it has nothing to do with the lower runs, and everything to do with cost of living and an exchange rate that has over halved in the last 20 years

I'm psyched.

I touched briefly on the Anime world back in the VHS days (Fist of the Northstar, Vampire Hunter D, Devilman, etc)

After seeing Appleseed in Blu, I'm hooked.

This is gonna be way rad.

Im pretty stoked myself. Ive gotten into anime the past year and a half or so, so ive just been dying for some more on blu. Appleseed was great and so was Tekkonkinkreet. I was surprised that my wife loved them both as well (not an anime lover).

Agreed!
I bought both the French and US releases, though I still haven't got the US one yet cos it's with a friend in NY who I had it sent to.

Paprika was amazing as a movie, and the animation was like WOW

Now bring out Millenium Actress on BD! (Me looks at Dreamworks...)

Also, actually a thing about the Blu-ray anime boxsets coming out there, like for AIR and others, are actually cheaper to get than all the original DVD's combined!

I really enjoyed the Japanese version of GITS 2:Innonence! I can't wait to commpare the two releases! I wonder if it will be anywhere near what I paid for the Japanese version.

I agree. Really looking forward to this. By the way, 'Vampire Hunter D' is one of my all-time favorites. Also, I'd love to see a state side release of 'Afro Samurai'.
