Default Books you want to see as films?

Read a good book lately? Want to see it as a movie? My list is a long one but I started this thread because I just read the most profound, awe-inspiring, thought provactive book I have ever read and I've read thousands. The name of the book is THE ALCHEMIST by Pablo Coelho. I honestly don't know if I've ever been so deeply moved by a book. Anyway, would make for a great movie IMO but it would depend on who directed it and the music score would be paramount to the tellers story. Other books I'd love to see as movie include: RED by Jack Ketchum, the DARK TOWER SERIES by STEVEN KING; Anything by Richard Laymon...these are just a few

I posted this under another thread a few days ago, but I read that Leo is playing Claudius from the Robert Graves book I' Claudius. I've recently read that book and its sequel, and am very much looking forward to a movie version.

EDIT: I'm sorry... I should have been more specific. I posted that under a thread about Rome, not about books people would like to see as a movie. I have not seen a thread like this recently.

Oh, Thanks Dave, great thread...I must have missed it, I hope the mods don't move it. I put it here becasue it "speaks" to movies and would get more traffic. I'd love to know what people think I'm a book nut...

Ender's Game, which they've talked about forever and is supposedly in pre-production according to IMDb. Orson Scott Card has some commentary about it in the audiobook version. He mentions that writing the screenplay was a big problem until he wrote Ender's Shadow, which allowed the story to be cast as a film-friendly "buddy movie". You can tell Card is really excited about the project.

Robert Ludlum and Philip Selby worked on a series of books called Covert One. I have only read one of the series but I was very impressed with it. It is not as dense as most of Ludlum's work. It is called the Cassandra Compact and in my opinion has summer blockbuster written all over it. It features spy's, infections and a NASA conspiracy. It is an awesome book and I recommend it to anyone.

I wish the ScarJo/Portman Bana version of The Other Boleyn Girl wasn't so boring. I first read the book a few years ago and it's still one of my faves. I hope someone else does this book justice someday.

I'd also like to see The Eight by Katherine Neville. Amazing book, similar to but better than The DaVinci Code IMO.

'Angels and Demons' will be coming out at some point, and I found that to be a much better book than 'The Da Vinci Code'. It will be interesting to see what they do with the film, but somehow, I think that it will be a far cry from the rhapsody of the book.

If I was to have my druthers, then I'd love to one day see a silver-screen rendition of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time Series. I'm not holding my breath on that, as it would take a monumental project the likes of which Hollywood has never embarked upon. For those of you that have never read any Robert Jordan books, think along the lines of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth, but on a much grander scale and more dynamic cosmos.

- 'The Eye of the World'
- 'The Great Hunt'
- 'The Dragon Reborn'
- 'The Shadow Rising'
- 'The Fires of Heaven'
- 'Lord of Chaos'
- 'A Crown of Swords'
- 'The Path of Daggers'
- 'Winter's Heart'
- 'Crossroads of Twilight'
- 'Knife of Dreams'
*'New Spring: The Novel'*

Unfortunately, he was taken from this earth prematurely on Septemeber 16, 2007. Rest in peace James Oliver Rigney, Jr. (Robert Jordan is a pen name), as you're still sorely missed by your many admirers.

I posted this in another thread once before, but I don't understand why Caleb Carr's incredible novel, "The Alienist" hasn't been brought to the screen. David Fincher and Neil Jordan should look to direct and Daniel Day-Lewis should star.

Thumbs up Atlas Shrugged

by Ayn Rand.

I've been wanting to see what this would be like on film for years. It has gone through many attempts that were abandoned.

It looks like this time it is in the works. Lionsgate is distributing it and apparently Angelina Jolie and Russel Crowe are cast in it.

Should be good.

Fantastic choice, and I completely agree. This book takes place in two time periods... most times films can capture that incredibly well, as it's usually received well by audiences.

Angels & Demons is easily better than Da Vinci Code, in my opinion. There isn't as much controversy with this book either.

I'm surprised as well. This is a fantastic book which would translate very well to the screen. I'd be very excited to see this come out.

I'm also a big fan of Daniel Silva's novels. I think the Gabriel Allon series would do very well (The Kill Artist, moving forward). I think he may be working on a screenplay for "The Messenger" which is one of the latest Gabriel Allon books...

Also, Vince Flynn's books are perfect summer movies. They'd basically be popcorn flicks requiring less thought than some of these other titles.

I'm a huge fan of Jeffrey Deaver books. The one that I particularly can't wait to see on the big screen is The Blue Nowhere. Apparently the rights were sold to Warner Bros with Joel Silver (The Matrix, Lethal Weapon, Die Hard) to produce the movie.

Also, on a Star Wars note, Drew Karpyshyn wrote Darth Bane Path of Destruction and Darth Bane Rule of Two. Both of these would be awesome Star Wars movies.

Jack London's Coming of age tale, Sea Wolf

They made a film many years ago in black & white with E. Flynn i think. But its time for a new adaptation.

Link to its Amazon page, over 2000 reviews for an average of 4 and a half stars.

http://www.sfreviews.net/endersgame.html There's another review of it there. This second link has a fair bit of general plot information in it though.
